HWY 20 South of Nimpo

#1 Post by Dave_F » Sun Aug 24, 2008 12:45 am

Hi All.

My son and I where driving to Bella Coola last Sunday (17th) and saw what I think where three ROVERLANDERS...2 defenders and a Rangie...I figured that they must have come off the Alexander Machenzie run. We all had a big wave on the highway as we sped past.

I was the green Series 3 109 with the white hardtop.

Who was it?

What colors were they, green, tan (sort of), and red?

Rangie was on the reddish side and the other two looked dark...one looked like it had some sort of colorfull decals? or stickers?...perhaps camo pattern....hard to tell passing on the highway.

Hi Dixon,

I figured that the 3 trucks were part of the A.M. Trail group, and thought of pulling over to chat, but you guys looked to be on a roll so a wave sufficed. I knew once I got back I could get the details from the web.

Cheers,

Dave

P.S. Where did you guys come out of the bush as I was looking at the maps and the trail actually comes down a fairly steep incline to the highway.

The road was no problem...I've done it a few times before but not in the 109...I was a little apprehensive going back up, but the 109 took it like a trooper and didn't have any problems at all. In fact the only issue I had in over 2100kms of Chilcotin back roads was a pinched windshield washer line. I've done a few 4x4 trips with buddies in other trucks, but nothing this sustained over 10 days.

We went up the back roads from Lilloet to the Gang Ranch crossing, running the FSR roads parallel to Hwy 20, only jumping back on the asphalt just around Tatla lake. Stayed in a Cabin at Nimpo, just to wash up, tehn down to the Atnarko Camp site in Tweedsmuir for 5 days before heading back. Saw lots of Grizzlies, but not a lot of fish this year. Apparently the Chum run is way down, and as a result the bears looked a little skinnier then a couple of years ago.

Did not burn any oil, coolant stayed level and all drivetrain fluids are where they should be.

Maybe once I get a winch I'll join you guys for the next AM trail.

Nice seeing other Roverlanders on the trip. :D
