Clutch slave spacer?

#1 Post by andrewMcF » Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:10 am

I just recently replaced my clutch slave after the retaining clip let go and spilled it's guts all over Hwy 97 in Kelowna here... But when replacing the slave I noticed a spacer between the clutch slave and the metal bracket that holds the slave to the truck, it's about 1/4" thick... The rod on the clutch slave has always had to been on the very end of the threads and even then the clutch engages just off the floor... I'm assuming that the retaining clip failed form the slaves piston banging against it every time I engaged the clutch, my logic is just to remove the spacer and readjust my clutch... is that thing even supposed to be there?

Doh! it's on a 1965 Series IIa 88 petrol... that kind of helps.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I dont remember a spacer on my 11a, I wonder if someone has fitted a slave cylinder from another LR model? Can't think of a reason to have the spacers there? Does it look just like this...

Spacer...

I also looked at the Rovers North parts pages too and they show no such spacer either... Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow! Thanks for the advice.

Results of removing the spacer

I removed the spacer and the clutch works better then it ever has, the clutch engages higher off the floor, before it would engage immediately off the floor... too soon. Plus when I push the clutch to the floor it doesn't feel like the slave is banging against the retaining c clip! The weird thing about the spacer is that it looks professionally made... oh it's history!

Thanks,
Andrew
