Founder's Day Theme Section

#1 Post by Doc Tari » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:49 am

Like last year, Founder's Day this year will include a section of the arena that will be dedicated to a theme. This year it will be military Rovers. So if you have a military Land Rover, please plan to come to Founder's Day and bring all your mililtary "kit" as it really adds to the display. A Sankey, camo netting, jerry cans, ammo boxes, sand bags, PSP, a command tent, radios, or field medical gear would all be great. Below are a couple of example photos from the War and Peace show in the UK. Space is limited so post up if you plan to attend and include your kit.

Count me in...1991 X-MOD Defender 110.

I'll have to dig around and see what I have in the shed to add to the display.

THink I have some military jerry cans

Hi Pete

Will bring the 101 if it is done and inspected in time but regardless I can add a 9x9 Command tent, some radios, camo netting, some webbing kit, and will look around to see what else I may have.
Cheers

ONLY TWO REPLIES? What about the rest of you guys? Dave V., what about the lightweight? Cory, the 101? Kris, Mark?

Ted, how are you making out with your 101, think you'll be ready?

Regards,
Pete

Well, my Ex MOD D90 FFR is not running just now (starter motor issue) but for you, I'll see if I can't get it going. Erm, probably best if you don't hold your breath. :)

Hi Pete
Should know the operational status by mid week, then to get it in and tested?
Cheers

Have you "Found" the emails? or have you "Fou

#7 Post by David V » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:07 am

There's all sorts of traffic on an email started by our Grand Pooh-bah asking for interest on the Military theme and I've seen at least five replies that also have your email address on them. I assumed (silly me) that who ever was organising it was being informed.

I didn't know it was you until Bill phoned me this morning. He didn't know about the Andy Deane RFI (Request For Interest) email either by the looks of it.

I don't visit this site often as it is painfully slow at times and I still have problems logging in.

I'm bringing Esther and Hermione
David Harrison is bringing a D90 FFR
David Fraser is bringing Military "stuff"
Brodie Petersen is bringing Olive
Bill will be bringing his "Stealth" ex military D90.
Ted Edwards is threatening to bring his 101 and stuff

I have called Ian Newby to see if he'll come (Is out of town so no) and also asked if he would be willing to loan me a bunch of "stuff" nets and such. He has not responded so far.

That's all
I got.

I am not sure if i will make it yet but as far as military gear, if anyone wants to brave a drive up island i can loan out some of my military gear for the show if it can be used.

jerry cans,
stretchers,
ammocans,
large modular tent section, needs a frame but i am sure one can be put up with 2x4's easily. its pretty big so maybe for an outdoor section of the show.
a bunch of other gear.

[quote="David V"]

I'm bringing Esther and Hermione
David Harrison is bringing a D90 FFR

David Fraser is bringing his x-MoD 110,
ammo cans (various sizes),
Ted has lent me the radio boxes antennas for my 110
Ted has also lent the club 2 18'x15' camo nets and he is bringing, bergens, pouches, helmets etc...

Brodie Petersen is bringing Olive
Bill will be bringing his "Stealth" ex military D90.
Ted Edwards is threatening to bring his 101 and stuff (see David Fraser)

Shawn will be bringing sand bags (empty) and Pete is looking into seeing if he can get some "stuffing" for the sand bags.
Still waiting to hear from Kris and Mark, but I suspect they will be bringing their x-MoD 110's

So at this point we are looking at around 10 trucks. As this will be a military display, lets stick to just military outfitted/looking trucks and gear. We will be setting up at 12 noon, so if you want to be included please ensure that you are there at the appointed time...or let Pete or I know that you will be late. As we want to set up prior to the AGM, time is tight.

I know there are other MoD trucks out there, so c'mon people lets have some fun. Military garb will be worn (Ted has lots if you need something - call or PM him for sizes).

If there are any questions, PM myself or Pete.

See you Saturday at 1200 hours sharp.

Cheers, Dave_F

Poor Esther, don't be so mean John, besides I think I recall other non-LR's at Founder's Day in the past with Land-Rovers riding piggy-back, no?

Just a question - thus the "?" mark. If other military vehicles are welcome and it is public knowledge then maybe others will take advantage.

It seems to me it would depend on space.

Ted talked to Corey today and it seems like he might be coming. He is in Calgary and coming back on Friday.

Founders Day ....

#16 Post by ANDYD » Tue Jan 18, 2011 12:16 pm

Yes, Land Rovers Only please (its a Land Rover Show!)

We could consider a rare acceptance for the Military Bedford (probably share many Land rover parts!) if its an important part of the military display. But as Pete say's it will probably come down to a space issue....

Cheers,
Andy

Sadly, my D90 FFR will not be making it over to share a stand with the other military trucks. Sorry about that. Simply ran out of time to fettle the old girl.

Still, every cloud has a silver one and I now have the opportunity to get the assembled Land Rover brains to help me figure out why the nearside rear passenger door on the 110 refuses to open.

See y'all on Saturday,

David

Camo Net

#18 Post by JC » Thu Jan 20, 2011 4:26 pm

I can bring a large camo net is that helps anyone, it's darn big but I won't be there to bring it down, I can only be there for half the day from the morning on so I would need someone to take care of it at the end and pack it up and then maybe arrange a time for me to come get it after the show or I guess maybe even at the Snow Flake event on Sunday which I will be at, Andy?? Let me know guys.

Thanks John C.

OK no problem guys, consider it there, do you need it at noon? I guess the AGM is at 1 anyway and I'll probably come a bit early for that but let me know if you need it earlier.

I'll be steering a noisy '87 Ex-MOD 110. Who's leaving from Duke Point
Saturday and at what time? I'll try to talk the wife into coming too.

Military Land Rovers

#23 Post by Dave_F » Fri Jan 21, 2011 2:31 pm

We will be starting to set up the display at 12:00. We would like to be set up prior to the AGM that starts at 1:00pm.

If you have a military LR and cannot make it by this time please let us know and we'll try and leave a spot for you.

Just to be clear here, the display will be made up of Military Land Rovers that still have their original paint or have been repainted in the original style. See the original first post with the military display pictures if you are unclear.

Please be punctual if yoiu want to be included. This display will have alot of components to it so time is critical to getting it right and being done when the doors open.

Cheers,

Dave Fraser

Ps. Did we ever confirm stuffing for the sand bags?

Dave,
We'll make the 10:15 from Duke Point. I think that'll put us there around
12:40 or so, if I don't accidently cross the border...
Frankly, the absence of my truck wouldn't exactly break the show.
It's a daily driver and devoid of anything military exept for the ariel mounts and the camo colour theme. Even for a truck painted by teenagers with toothbrushes, the paintjob is not great. Also, there are bare checkered aluminum pannel guards here and there and the wheels are aftermarket.
Still, it would be nice to park inside so it dosn't get wet :D and it would pad the pack. See you there!

Angus,

Sounds like it will fit right in!

We'll save you a spot!
