As far as I know, it's happening as scheduled. I definitely want to come, but Ming, my Discovery, still has issues. I may be looking to see who has space for an extra passenger...

Re: Ochi Basin / Texas Creek - 14-15 Sep 2013
Ok, Here are some details for the upcoming run to Blow down Pass - Texas Creek - Ochi Basin - Molybdenite Peak ....last year the format seemed to work well so I thought we would keep it the same again this year.
Heading up the Sea to Sky H-way we can have the following meeting spots along the way;
Saturday 14th Sept
09:00-09:30 Breakfast at Tim Hortons / Wendys in Squamish
11:00-11:15 Meeting at the Petro Canada Gas station in Pemberton (Hway 99 and Portage Rd)
12:00 Noon - Meeting at Duffey Lake carpark on the Duffey Lake road.
- From Duffey Lake we head off-road to 6500ft Lunch (1pm) at the top of Blow Down Pass (amazing views over the Stein Valley)
After lunch we will head to Lilooet and then onto Texas Creek / Ochi Basin.
We can make Base camp (plan on camping camping Sat night) in the Ochi Basin meadows under the Molybdenite Peak. Base camp is at 4000ft so it could get cold at night.
Sunday morning (10ish) we will then head up to the top of the ridge at 7500ft. You will need to be comfortable with very narrow roads and big drop offs to enjoy this run, I have posted a couple of photos from last year below to give you an idea of the terrain.
If there are members of the group who would prefer not to go to the top they can stay back at base camp until we return (approx 3hrs later) or leave their vehicle at base camp and jump in with some one else for the ride to the top.
Planning to be back on the road at Lilooett approx 3pm, so back to Vancouver around 7 to 8pm Sunday evening.
Like always, let us know if you plan on coming along and where you intend to meet the group so we can look out for you.
Cheers, Andy

Hi guys,
I'll be coming on this run and a friend of mine Paul, with a full size Dodge pickup, would like to join us. I've never been up Ochi, should he be concerned about the width of his truck on the narrow shelf road?
Thanks,
Pete

Pete,
Although most of the road width on the switch backs is about 8-10 ft wide there are some short sections that are only 6-7ft wide.
So it would depend how your friend is with heights and edges, I wouldn't recommend taking a full size dodge up there it but I have heard of full size trucks going up there in the past.
Mike,
Good to hear you are able to make it again, we will be on Channel 4 CB (Bill was still sitting on the fence last time I spoke with him).

Thanks Andy. If he decides to try but finds it's too narrow, will he find a reasonable spot to turn around or is he going to have to reverse all the way down the mountain...?

...there is another alternative :rolly:Doc Tari wrote:Thanks Andy. If he decides to try but finds it's too narrow, will he find a reasonable spot to turn around or is he going to have to reverse all the way down the mountain...?
Corners would be a tight turnaround...there is an area about halfway up that he could...but thats about it.
I did some serious butt clenching on this run, but it was snowy and i was at the back of the pack so it was a little packed/icy, and when they stopped i tended to slide a wee bit back
Probably one of the most scenic runs I've been on...spectacular views and elevation gain.

Max, Oliver and I will see you guys at Tim's in Squamish on Saturday AM. Might camp at Alice Lake on Friday.
6-7 ft wide road in parts eh? I think that's still wider than most parking spots in the UK

Hi Guys
I'm the dodge guy. I'm looking forward to doing this trail. If it looks unsafe when we get there, we'll either walk or hopefully catch a ride.
I'm going up on Friday and will camp in Whistler and will meet the group at the pemberton meeting spot.

Stewart
Sound good, we will see you all in Squamish.
Paul,
Ok, see you in Pemberton. Just curious what is the width / length of your dodge?
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy
The truck is 79" wide on the ground. Outside of tire to outside of tire.
13.5' wheel base. 17' overall. It's a quad cab short box. 6" lift, 35s.

Hi Kris,
To be on the safe side I would say about 90 mins from the Ochi base camp back to highway 99 at Lilooet.

Looks like we'll get a bit of rain on Sunday. Hope the clouds stay high so we can see those views!

Hi Bert, good to have you along. will you be meeting us in Squamish?
Paul, yes I have been watching that forecast of Sunday rain carefully, right now it hits the coast on Sunday afternoon, but Lillooet (our nearest weather station) is still showing 29 deg and sunny all day.
Chers, Andy

I contracted the fire information officer for Ochi Basin meadows area and she said there is currently no ban on campfires (half meter cube rule applies). Are we likely to find fuel or should we bring firewood? Chainsaw?
