Obviously the folks at Land Rover are placing a lot of distance between them and the Defender we all love.

This Range Rover will be featured at the LA Auto Show which opens this week. I just happen to be in the neighbourhood and a friend is introducing me to the head designer for Land Rover. While I am sure this new LWB will get a lot of attention I will be quizzing him on the death of the Defender, something that I am very unhappy about.
On my recent trip to Africa I had reserved a Defender for the trip but they were is such demand I was unable to get one upon arrival and was forced to drive a Land Cruiser, which, while capable of the trip made me feel like I was driving my fathers Corolla. :(
In my mind the Defender creates the panache and fantasy around expedition and overland travel which sells the rest of the brand.
Anyone else have any comments for me to pass on to him???
Perhaps if Victoria Beckham can help design the Evoque, Roverlanders should be able design a Defender that would be true to it's roots!!!

I'm really sad about the Defender going away, too. I guess they just can't make it meet modern safety standards (probably because it kills everything it hits).
I've read that they plan to make the next Defender appealing to the agriculture and military sector so it might not be too bad. I saw the "concept" version of the new Defender which looked bloody terrible... but then I read that those are just placeholder body designs and won't be anything like the real version. They also plan to sell the new one in North America, so I hear, and it will be their most basic and inexpensive model.
I read all this a while ago so it's probably changed 100 times since then.
Who knows... maybe the new Defender won't be so bad. Would be nice to have Land Rover release something to compete with the Wrangler here in North America.
