Mt Sicker - Mt Prevost no-scratch run proposal

#1 Post by Rob » Sun Nov 29, 2015 2:20 pm

Hey folks.

Just got back from a quick scouting trip on Mt. Sicker and Mt. Prevost. There's a nice, no-scratch route that would take a couple of hours to complete. Could be longer if people wanted to wander along some of the side trails as well and there's a couple of nice open spots for lunch and views if the weather is clear. It is NO SCRATCH route but will require decent tires and driving skills as I ran into some slippery sections along the way. The P38 did well but the TC and and anti-lock did come into play a couple of times during the trip. No ground clearance issues and no height restrictions... any rover model in good repair should be fine on this drive. For a few pics of the route go to the following link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/green_rov ... 1655120712

I'm proposing a couple of possible dates, Sunday the 6th or the following weekend on Sunday the 13th...start with breakfast 9ish with a 10 o'clock departure from the restaurant next to the Russel Farm Market. Probably back on the tarmac by 1 so everyone would be driving home in the daylight. If the significant others would prefer, there are some craft fairs in the area or they could just drink hot-toddies with Lisa at our place until the rovers return. :drunken:

So, who's in and what day do you prefer?

Hi Rob

Sorry no dates in December work for me. My weekends are fully booked with the Christmas Train at the forest museum. (Not that I have to go on all the trips).

I'd be in for the 13th if there is enough interest, booked up for the rest of the month though.
thanks,
Pat

I can come on the 13th with the yellow 110, I hope. There was some gunk in a filter in the tank so somehow air was getting in the line.

Hello everyone

Well, I've got the axles back in my Defender so I'm good to go and there's enough interest for Sunday the 13th that we should make a go of it! The plan it to meet at the Red Rooster Restaurant which is located by the main highway next to Russell's farm Market ( 48.875526, -123.707037 ). Breakfast is a 9 and we'll depart at 10 and go up Mt. Sicker. The route is no scratch and will take a couple of hours but can be extended if we explore some of the side trails, Maybe I'll remember how to find the clay pits and then we can all play in the mud for awhile (Greg?). There's a 50% chance of rain but the temperature and winds shouldn't be too bad. Kid friendly, any "rover" friendly (other 4x4's are welcome). Bring the usual, lunch, coffee, a FRS radio, whatever spares you might need, a camera. Should be fun, see you there!

Cheers, Rob

Still on for tomorrow... might be rainy but the winds should be calmer than today. There might be some blow-down from today's winds so a buck saw or chain saw might be handy if you have one to bring along. I've got a spare seat in my 110 if someone wants to ride along.

See you tomorrow :)

Nice camera work, Colin!

It was a good run, lots of rain at first then it cleared-up later on. No scratch but lots of bumps, big puddles and a long climb through a washed-out road leading up to the clay pits and slag pile. No snow where we were though it could be seen to the north at the higher elevations. The three Defender 110's all behaved well as did the drivers and passengers. A few nice stops along the way and good conversation over breakfast made for an enjoyable outing. Perhaps our next run should be looking for snow... Mt Aerosmith anyone?
