Starter Bolts (Chev)
Not a rover specific question but it plays into my current rover project so here goes.
My project requires a GM 153t flywheel and my chev 4.3 block doesn't have the required straight across holes. No problem I picked up a starter from CSR performace that comes with an adapter block to correct the problem. ( http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...0sbp/overview/ )
Seems like my block uses 4.5"(+/-) x M10 coarse bolts whereas my starter came with 3/8th -16 bolts. They are longer than stock to accomodate the starter block and the shank is narrower as the stock bolts cant go through the holes. they are also un-knurled. The 3/8th bolts DO thread into the m10 holes but they bottom out about a quarter inch short of being tight. My stock bolts have about 1/4 inch at the tip where they are unthreaded.
I'm not sure on the best coarse of action here. Two things jump to mind.
1. Should I get the starter mounting block hole bored out and notched to accept the stock bolt?
2. or should I grind away the threads on the starter bolt for the 1st quarter inch to give it room to seat properly.
There is also the matter of the narrower shank diameter just above the threaded portion.
Can I some how sleeve the unthreaded portion of the hole in the engine block to make sure the bolt fits tight without any wiggle room at the shank? Or is that not something to concern myself with at all?
