clutch slave cylinder push rod retaining clip broken

#1 Post by BruceD » Tue Oct 24, 2017 9:01 pm

Hello everyone, have a defender emergency and am looking for parts and thought i'd try you guys and the forum.
My clutch issues are back so I was replacing the slave cylinder tonight and pulled the push rod to verify the clutch fork was okay.
Mistake.... I broke the plastic clutch fork to push rod retaining clip trying to reinstall.
Its land rover park 576723. I am wondering if I can actually get this from landrover here i Victoria, but im not hopeful.
Anyone have one on hand or know of one? Need her back on the road asap.
this is what the part looks like

Anyone have advice on how to get the clip back onto the fork? I struggled for quite a while before i broke the clip.

Some searching on other forums seems to state I can run without the clip for now?
I have a TD5 with the 380 tranny.

I wouldnt expect LR Victoria dealer to have these, although these are also used on the Discovery, I don't think they were ever big on selling manual gearbox Discos.
I would suggest giving Jeremy at Rocky Mountain a call and he can pop one in the mail for you to get in the next day or two. Maybe buy a couple so you have a back up (only around $5 each I believe).

Make sure you get the clip for the 4 cylinder clutch as the Land Rover V8 clutch clip I believe is different.

As far as getting them in place, I remember just putting one leg in first then gently pushing on the other leg with a screw driver until it clicks into place.

What gearbox / clutch do you have, my clip looked more like this one ....

Cheers,
Andy
