Island Rover outing March 31st is a GO

#1 Post by Rob » Fri Mar 15, 2019 8:24 pm

Okay, we have a plan!

Meet at the Mill Bay Tim Hortons at 9AM with a departure by 930. We will have a driver's meeting at 915 and decide on our final route (will depend on the gate closures): we might play in the Glenora area, up Mt. Sicker or into Copper canyon / Lake Cowichan (a lot will depend on the gates). Plan for minimal scratching but might encounter mud, snow, dust,,, probably a broken-down Jeep  . Bring lunch, camera, a 2 way radio if you have one (HAM or FRS radio is best), recovery gear if you plan to get stuck or back into a ditch... plan is to be back on the pavement 3ish.

Hope to see you there!

Rob

An early spring run would be great Rob. Unfortunately little red needs some fine tuning.
If I can get the carb rebuilt and fuel pump changed then I’d love to come out.
And Sunday works best for me 😊

HI Rob,
I think I can make that work. Saturday is better but Sunday also works.

Can't make it that weekend as it is my duty crew weekend at the fire hall.

I did go for a drive yesterday, Mount Prevost. Frustrated by the spring snow. It slides on itself, won't compact so no traction.

Hi Rob we will be there with a winch just in case there is a repeat of last time.

If you're not sure where to go I hear Holt Main Line is nice out by Glenora.

Sunday works best for us, where do you want to meet and at what time?

Winch, what winch, who needs a winch?

We can do Sunday and haven't got a preference for location so if you want to do Holt Main we could do that. How about we meet at the Tim Horton's in Mill Bay so the south-enders won't have so far to drive. 9 AM meeting time work for everyone? I'll double check the Island Timberlands website Friday afternoon to confirm the gate will be open.

Cheers, Rob

If I’m back from the Sunshine Coast by the weekend I’ll meet you guys on Sunday at Timmies.

Hi Rob, lately the Island timberlands gates seem to be closed on the weekends. If they're closed this weekend we could maybe go up Grace Rd near the rally campsite there are a few trails that are not very scratchy up there with some sticky mud. Or maybe Cassidy or Nanaimo Lakes.

Oh, the chance of mud sounds too good to pass up. I have decided that if I have any family visiting this weekend I will just invite them to come along. Count me in.

Is the 3st short for 31st? You young kids and your slang confuse me.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to join in the fun, due to previous commitment... damn! Enjoy! Doug

Gates are OPEN :D
Just checked the Island Timberland website and both Glenora and Chemainus gates are open this weekend! Looks like we will have lots of options for our Sunday drive. See you all at the Mill Bay Tim Hortons at 9AM on Sunday (the 31st)

We did it! A mix of sun, snow, scenery and a lot of dust :D
Here's a couple of pics to prove it!
