17TH ANNUAL VANCOUVER ISLAND LAND-ROVER RALLY
June 7th, 8th and 9th 2019

This year's rally will be held again at 8957a Cranko Road, the home of Roy and Marg Lavigne in Chemainus BC. Turn West at the corner of the Trans Canada highway and Mount Sicker Road (Red Rooster gas bar and Russel’s Farm Market) go past the market staying on Mount Sicker Road it turns left. Follow Mount Sicker Road until you hit the T intersection of Mount Sicker Road and Cranko Road (Watch for the wind sock in the field) turn right on Cranko Road. The farm is on the right side a little ways down the road use the second driveway. Watch for the Land Rover direction signs, follow the signs. If you have not arrived in a British vehicle you will notice a parking sign marked OTHER that’s where you will park your none British vehicle.

Agenda - Friday June 7th arrive any time after 2:00 pm. Find a nice grassy camping spot in the field or the trees sorry no hookups but fresh water and a Loo will be provided. We hope to have a campfire that evening (if the Island does not have a fire ban). You are on your own for dinner on Friday.

Agenda -Saturday June 8th Drivers meeting at 9:15 am. We will leave the farm at 9:30 am. SHARP

This years Saturday drive will take us approximately 5 hours, there are multiple options for routes that day. There will be an easy run or longer, more scratchy route to Lois Lake in Glenora. However there is always the possibility for new scratches. If you are worried about scratches there is always a spare seat in another Rover.

Saturday nights dinner will again be Pot-luck bring enough to share. Side dishes are suggested, the desert will be provided. There will be a propane barbeque available at the farm. Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. After dinner we may drive to Mt. Prevost if there is enough interest or relax at camp.

Agenda-Sunday June 10th- Pancake breakfast at 8:30 am. prepared by Shelly and Margaret. Pancakes, sausage, farm fresh eggs, and drinks will be provided if you want to contribute sticky buns etc please do. Afterwards there will be a short scratch run to Mt Sicker, we should be out of the bush by 4:00.

Some commonly asked questions.

Cost? Free all 3 fun filled days.
Is there a petrol station nearby? Yes petrol, diesel, propane, groceries and deli goods at the Red Rooster and Russel Farm markets. Top your tanks and your bellies for the Saturday drive.
Can I bring my non-British vehicle? Yes parking will be available for non-British Vehicles.
Can I bring my non-British vehicle on the drive? NO but there is always a spare seat available in somebody’s rover just ask. Sorry this is a Land Rover event.
Can I bring my hound? Yes as along as it gets along with people, kids, other hounds and you clean up after it. Your hound will have to be leashed when ever it is out of your rover. No exceptions.
Some other things to bring. Lawn chairs, portable tent, sun lotion or rain gear, extra clothes maybe a bathing suit the Chemanus river is very close to the farm. A dip may be nice after a long dusty day on the trail. A radio of some sort ham, cb, or frs. Camera and a lunch for the Saturday drive.

Check the Island section on the Rover landers of BC web forum for any updates. We would like to know how many are coming so please reply here if possible.

Please RSVP on the Island Section of the Forum. We need to know if you're coming, unless you want to make your own breakfast.

If there is enough interest by May 15th, we will order T-Shirts

T-Shirts commemorating the event will again be available, low range, neutral, high range and overdrive sizes. Colors available....green. Cut off date for ordering shirts is 2 weeks before the event. Cost is about $20 each.

Two Dormobiles none running. Well maybe one will be running but its not looking good.

T-SHIRT ORDERS
Just so every one knows I have a source for top quality almost indestructible T-shirts, they will probably outlast your rover This years design will please everyone. BUT we need to have enough advance warning to get them ordered in time and there is a minimum order to make this happen.
So get your order in early, sizes available are as follows, low range- neutral- high range and overdrive. ( If you can not figure the size chart out you may want to go back to driving a J##P.) Colors available .....green. Cost $20.. Canadian

It was so much fun last year I wouldn't miss it, so I will be there!

This sounds amazing... Unfortunately i can only do Saturday so i'm hoping to drive up from Vic City early in the morning to catch the run.

The post mentions a Radio is needed... any suggestions for a first timer?

Hi Stuart

You do not actually need a radio but they are fun to have. We use all kinds from the little hand held family radios to ham radios to CB. Ham radios need a license to transmit on but you can listen with out a license. Ham radio seems to be the way to go. Your local radio club will most likely put on a course sometime in the near future to help you obtain your license and the courses are normally free.
So what ever you want to do will be fine but you do not need one.

Are you staying for dinner Saturday night? It is usually pretty amazing for a pot luck.

We are planning dinner for 5:00 pm the ladies are again doing pulled pork as the main course. I think last year it was a 25 pounder.
So we should be back at the event site by 4:00 pm so folks can relax a bit before sitting down and possibly over eating.

Hi Everyone

Less than 3 weeks to go till Vancouver Islands biggest Land rover event of the year again takes place.
If you are planning to attend lets hear from you, its nice to know how many folks are coming. ( The cooks want to know how much breakfast food to purchase.)
T- shirts orders will need to be in by Thursday May 23th, we are still a bit shy of the minimum order, so if you want one lets hear from you.

The routes have all been pre driven and so far the gates are still open. Its going to be a good one, very scenic and challenging enough for those of you who want to really see what Britain's finest 4x4 can really do.... See you all at the event.

I'll will be coming on Friday till Sunday with the boys. Also if they are still available, I will take 3 medium and one large t-shirt.

Hi Stuart, the run on Saturday will take 2 routes to the same destination, one will be a scratch free route to a Lake whereas the other will be scratchy (nothing that wouldn't buff out). Both are nice routes into the mountains.

Okay we have enough orders to do a run of T shirts, the color has changed from Green to White ( I know I know not good for working under the hood) but that's life. Something to do with the design being to complicated to replicate in the normal way onto a green shirt. it will still be a crowd pleaser.

So if you want one let me know by tonight ( please don't assume that I will have remembered from 2 months ago that you verbally told me you want one).

Unfortunately, we shall not be able to attend the June rally. Our 110 is, literally, in hundreds of pieces as we're doing a ground up reno. We're just about to start re-assembly, so maybe we'll be able to attend next year's event. We wish you all a very enjoyable weekend.

Gate Closures – Municipal Forest Reserve
(North Cowichan, BC) – The recent and forecasted warm and dry weather has increased the forest fire hazard. In order to limit motorized access into the Municipal Forest Reserve, the Mount Prevost, Mount Sicker, and Grace Road forestry gates will be locked as of 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 until further notice.

Forestry gates on Maple Mountain, Mount Tzouhalem, and Mount Richards are closed year-round.

The Municipal Forest Reserve remains open for non-motorized activities, such as hiking and mountain biking. Overnight camping, campfires, and fireworks are not permitted in the Municipal Forest Reserve at any time.

Hi Stuart, thanks for the update I saw that this morning as well. TImberwest Lands may still be open next week but it is unlikely. There will still be a Saturday and Sunday Run, although new routes will have to be used.

We drove up to the Mt Bolduc crash site on Sunday and it was very dry up there. Not surprised they are closing gates early.

Six days to go till the big event its going to be a good one. if you are planning to attend lets hear from you.( Remember land- Rovers and Austin Gypsies only).

Since it looks like we may have a campfire ban by next weekend, could the club bring along the portable campfire? Thank you.

At the present time we are not sure where the Saturday drive will go (Fire bans) but we will go somewhere so make sure you have your fuel tank full of petrol for Saturday morning. ( Or diesel as the case may be).

The T shirt order has arrived on time and they look good.

It's shaping up to be a great weekend! On Saturday the revised plan is to go for a scenic drive to Nitinat Lake and on Sunday we have a fun scratch run planned since it looks like the gates will be open.

Thanks to all of the organizers and hosts for a great day out on the dusty trail Saturday. Bummed we couldn't hang out for longer and join up today... But we (and Oliver) had a great time meeting up with the group. Cant wait for next year!

Hey, yes BIG thank you to the Van Island group for hosting yet another wonderful weekend Land Rover Rally in the Valley, a bunch of us stayed for the long weekend (Fri-Mon) and it felt like a holiday! Tasty Pot Luck on Saturday and the Sunday breakfast kicked us off to a good start on the Sunday run.

The Sunday run had quite a few off-road surprises which I will post up some good pictures and videos when I can get to it ...

What a great time! The kids came back exhausted but with big smiles on their faces. They are already looking forward to buying their first rovers and joining the club. (don't worry, it will be a few years yet... plenty of time to run :D ) Our hosts outdid their-selves again. Talk of next year is already being tabled. Thank you all. Looking forward to seeing some of those great pics and videos!

My son and I had a blast as well. Being our first Rally in the valley it was very special. Was happy with the way Poppy (my little red series) performed, she did great.
