North Chehalis Lake - Saturday 23rd February

Hi All,
On Saturday we are planning a club run up the west side of Harrison Lake, across Mystery Creek to the beautiful Chehalis Lake (North end). We are sure to find snow along the way but hope to be able to get to the Lake for lunch. If we can't make it to Chehalis Lake then the back up plan will be Fossil Beach for lunch on west Harrison Lake.
Meeting at the Sasquatch Inn, 46001 Lougheed Hwy, Harrison Mills, BC V0M 1A0 (on highway #7) between 9am and 9.30am, departing at 09.30am sharp. Fuel up along the way before meeting and bring lunch / snacks etc.
Mud/snow/All terrain tires are highly recommended, snow chains if you have them.
Let us know if you are planning to come alone and we will keep an eye out for you,

Cheers,
Andy

Sounds like fun! :D
I'm in.
A quick google search said the inn is at 46001 Lougheed Hwy, Harrison Mills. Is this the right spot?

Yes, 46001 Lougheed Hwy, Harrison Mills, BC V0M 1A0 is correct for the meeting point.
I heard today that the West Harrison FSR is clear of snow up to Mystery Creek, so that should help our progress and we may even be able to run the upper power lines route :bounce:

Hi Andy,
How does this run compared to the Vedder Mountain run we joined you on for the wheels event?
Thanks,
Paul.

Hi Paul,
The Vedder Mtn run we did was tight and technical, this run will be more wide open and faster moving. If you look at the 2012 photo gallery, one of the first runs we did in 2012 was this same run (2012 Snow Flake Chase -Mystery Creek run).
Cheers, Andy

Thanks for the info on the run.
I think I'll wait for the dedicated Fossil Beach run as that is a run we have been waiting for since we bought our Disco.
I'm just not certain we would be able to keep up with all you Defender guys if the snow got too deep... :)

Paul,
Your Discovery wont have much trouble as long as you have good tires. If we put you near the back of the line the snow wont be as much of a problem.
Saying that, its all about your comfort level.
We typically have a run to Fossil Beach in March or April, so not long to wait....
Cheers,
Andy

posted on Coastal Cruisers site by a member who went up there mid January...
"If they are going up to the north via Mystery creek FSR there is active logging on the West Harrison main and they like the park there equipment so it blocks the road. We did get past mid there middle on January but Mystery was only cleared about 4kms up to the Logging camp. From there it was deep deep snow that we where not able to get on top of with 37's at 5psi. I think with the weather we have had over the last few weeks the snow ill have packed but it may have snowed more up there too.
Just be ready for a long slow day. "

Thanks for the update, it is a strange area. One week you can drive on top and go for miles, another week you just drop through the snow and go no where! Either way, the Mystery Creek turn off is not far from Hale / Fossil beach turn off so that will be the back up plan.
Cheers,
Andy

A great turn out of 11 trucks made a brave attempt to reach Chehalis Lake North End for lunch, we were finaly stopped by bottomless snow at just 4 kms from the Lake.
Weather was kind to us, the mountain air was very fresh, great group to share the day with, thanks everyone for coming out....

Yes! Awesome day out and my thanks for the tour guiding. The snow was not too much trouble for me, surprisingly, but I did whack a stump with the right front tire on the way up from Fossil Beach which caused my steering wheel to be out of line by about 20 degrees... I thought this was getting off pretty light as I was going too fast and it stopped the truck dead in it's tracks. Interestingly, the truck still tracked perfectly straight all the way home on the freeway with no vibrations or pulling to one side, just the crooked wheel...
Was great to get out with the Rover crowd again and I hope to see you all again soon...
Graham

Yes, I had seen this before, Stuart! What you didn't know about this video is the Land Cruiser was a petrol powered variant, and the reason it's approach speed to the dune was so slow compared to the 110 was due to the fact that the 'Cruisers alternator was dragging down the output of the engine, a result of having to jump start the Rover all morning!
lol
see you soon!
