16TH ANNUAL VANCOUVER ISLAND LAND-ROVER RALLY
June 8th, 9th and 10th 2018

First off I would like to thank Greg Sutfin for hosting the first 15 years of the Rally. Actually the thanks should probably go to Erica for letting him host it, anyway thanks to both of you.

Okay new hosts for this years rally are Oliver and Colin Balme (250-743-2273) The new location is 8957a Cranko Road, the home of Roy and Marg Lavigne. Chemanus BC. Turn West at the corner of the Trans Canada highway and Mount Sicker Road (Red Rooster gas bar and Russel’s Farm Market) go past the market staying on Mount Sicker Road it turns left. Follow Mount Sicker Road until you hit the T intersection of Mount Sicker Road and Cranko Road (Watch for the wind sock in the field) turn right on Cranko Road. The farm is on the right side a little ways down the road use the second driveway. Watch for the Land Rover direction signs, follow the signs. If you have not arrived in a British vehicle you will notice a parking sign marked OTHER that’s where you will park your none British vehicle.

Agenda - Friday June 8th arrive any time after 2:00pm. Find a nice grassy camping spot in the field or the trees Sorry no hookups but fresh water and a Loo will be provided. We hope to have a campfire that evening (if the Island does not have a fire ban). You are on your own for dinner on Friday.

Agenda -Saturday June 9th Drivers meeting at 9:15 am. We will leave the farm at 9:30 am. SHARP
The drive will take approximately 5 hours, hopefully it will be non damaging. However you may get some new scratches. If you are worried about scratches there is always a spare seat in another Rover.
Saturday nights dinner will again be Pot-luck bring enough to share. There will be a propane barbeque available at the farm. Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. After dinner we may do a rover scavenger hunt (so do not set your roof top tent up after the afternoon drive) or we may drive to the top of Mount Provo. Campfire to close out the evening.

Agenda-Sunday June 10th- Pancake breakfast at 8:30am. prepared by Shelly and Margaret. Pancakes, sausage, farm fresh eggs and drinks will be provided if you want to contribute sticky buns etc please do. Possible scratch run after breakfast.

Some commonly asked questions.

Cost? Free all 3 fun filled days.
Is there a petrol station nearby? Yes petrol, diesel, propane, groceries and deli goods at the Red Rooster and Russel Farm markets. Top your tanks and your bellies for the Saturday drive.
Can I bring my non British vehicle? Yes park in the OTHER parking area.
Can I bring my non British vehicle on the drive? NO but there is always a spare seat available in somebody’s rover just ask. Sorry this is a Land Rover event.
Can I bring my hound? Yes as along as it gets along with people, kids and other hounds. Your hound will have to be leashed when ever it is out of your rover. No exceptions.
Some other things to bring. Lawn chairs, portable tent, sun lotion or rain gear, extra clothes maybe a bathing suit the Chemanus river is very close to the farm. A dip may be nice after a long dusty day on the trail. A radio of some sort ham, cb, or frs. Camera and a lunch for the Saturday drive.

Check the Island section on the Rover landers of BC web forum for any updates. We would like to know how many are coming so please reply here if possible. T-Shirts commemorating the event will again be available, low range, neutral, high range and overdrive sizes. Colors available....green. Cut off date for ordering shirts is 2 weeks before the event. Cost about $16 each.

Wow just bought a Land Rover Discovery II and the rally in the valley couldn't be better timing for me, it's been over 10 years since I've had a Rover again and probably even longer since I've been to a rally in the valley! Don't know if anyone here remembers me but I was the guy with the 1956 series 1 in beige way back at the 2005 rally I have some pictures but I don't see any way to post them here perhaps we'd get a bigger audience with a Facebook page for the rally in the valley? If it doesn't exist already?

I also designed some of the early rally t-shirts I'll definitely be wearing mine from the 2005 rally in the valley

Hi, I will be coming with my two boys... looking forward to it.

I was hoping to attend, but I'm away that weekend.

I will be coming along with my teen gang (Max & Oliver 15 and Leanne 13) - looking forward to it!

I will be attending on Saturday for the drive and pot luck dinner, with my wife Donna and our friend Heidi.
This will be our first outing in our 1998 Defender 110. Trust the outing will be appropriate for a ‘rookie’ ??

Just 5 more sleeps until the Rally! If anyone else is coming please let us know so we can make sure there is enough breakfast on Sunday for all.

For Saturday night the suggested food to bring and prepare is Salad or Desserts.

On Sunday there are plans for a scratch run after breakfast. It should last about 3 hours and then you can leave from there to wherever you need to be. We should be back on the hardpan by 1:30 (depends on how many Jeeps need rescuing). This will give the Mainlanders plenty of time to catch an afternoon ferry. The destination will be the famous Mt. Sicker Mines and what is left of Lenora.

Can't wait for the rally, unfortunately do to work commitments I'll only be there for Friday but it'll still be great to see some old friends and meet some new ones.

I'll make it for the drive on Saturday but sadly won't be able to camp over due to work early Sunday morning.

Pippa and I will be there Friday evening.

Hello, just reading the fine print. Is this seriously a Land Rovers only event?!! I had 2 friends in Toyotas that were coming with me. Sorry I've never been to a Roverlanders even thats been strictly Land Rover only in the past so I've never bothered to enquire. Can you please confirm.

So, in most past Rallies I've provided Sweep in my Jeep. I understand that it's Land Rovers only this year. This is always a fun event and I'd still like to come out and enjoy the drive on Saturday. Does anyone have a right seat I can ride "shot gun" in? Oliver, Andrew, Victor...?

I'll probably have a seat in a disco if you don't mind coils springs, air conditioning and power windows....

Checked today and other trucks are allowed.

An executive decision has been made by myself to yet again allow non Land Rovers at the event. You just have to ride at the back to watch for parts falling off.

I'm not sure if anyone will get this. Change of plans on my end, I'm going to try and make it up there with the Jeep. Getting insurance at 9 AM when they open and then head up. Don't wait for me, I'll be on VHF.

I would just like to thank Victor and Margret especially , and Rob and Lisa for all there work they put into the rally as well , and Shelley's parents Roy and Margret for letting us use there venue. It is the preparation that makes for a good event!

Great to see everyone again. Impressive turnout from (mainland) Canada. Shame I could not participate in the drives as to D2 is too poorly. But hey, the best of company, eats, organization and venue. Thanks to all for making it!

Thank you to all the Island Rover members, it was an outstanding weekend....

And congratulations to Colin for his first place finish at the Motorsport track on Sunday.

Another epic weekend! Thanks to the entire Balme extended family (including Rob and Victor). What an awesome 2 days of back country travel. All of you are amazing people to wheel with. Thanks to Matt, Rob and Oliver who let me ride shotgun on Saturday. The farm was the perfect, picturesque place to base the rally from and to camp out, especially in the trees!

I think I signed up 3 people to the 4WDABC, Chris, Rob and...? I want to make sure I let our Membership Chair know who paid. Also, I'm writing an article on the event. If anyone wants to submit photos that would be great. I saw many of you with a LOT nicer cameras than mine! Free magazine and credit.
