Looking for the original carburetor for
A 2liter spreadbore ( I think that’s what there
Called) or If theres a better carburetor option
For this engine please let me know.
Thank you

Hi Herman,
The original Solex is very hard to find. You can find a made-in-China Solex clone, but they are terrible, I tried one and it fell apart on the highway.
I would recommend buying a Weber 34ich. It is a good carb, you can still find NOS versions, the aftermarket support (rebuild kits) are fairly common, and it gives a reasonable compromise of power and fuel economy. You will need an adapter plate to orient it correctly for your linkage, but that is super easy to have made up.
Good luck
Ray

Hi ray
Thank you, really appreciate your help. I’ll try
To find a original carb and if not I’ll go with the
Webber like you suggest.
I’m exited to get this series 1 started. It hasn’t run in over 20 years from the farmer I bought it off said but supposed to run good.
We shall see. Thanks again.

Here's one for sale on the island. Not mine and don't know anything about it but might be worth a look. Not sure its a rover carb as they were used on VWs and a bunch of other small cars of that era

That’s not a Land Rover carb in the ad above. Your best bet is to get a new Weber 34ich carb for around $200. Unless you want to spend around $500+ for a rebuilt original solex.

I have a Weber 34 ICH carb. with an adapter plate, asking $ 200.
The Weber was on a Series 3, 1974 Land Rover engine I installed in my 1956 S 1 Station Wagon.
I also have many other Series Land Rover parts.
All in North Vancouver
