I've just finished rebuilding the tranny in my 80". I also cleaned all the crud out of the tranny x-member, easy to do as it is open at each end. However, so far I have not been able to clean out the engine x-member (under the bell housing). It has 60 odd years of rock hard crud almost completely filling it up. Using a very large, heavy, bent screwdriver and an hour or so of apply my power washer, I managed to get out about 2 or 3" out from each side. However, aside from cutting open the bottom of the x-member, I have no idea how to get at and break apart the rest of the crud. Nothing, so far has loosened up enough crud for anything to come out of the drain hole. Enlarging the existing bottom drain hole made no difference, so far. And flexible probes didn't do anything to the "concrete" like crud , except bend. :x

Any and all suggestions welcome. I really do not want to start cutting into the frame if I can avoid it.

That's a beautiful looking job.
What I have done on 2 rovers now is as you say a power washer with a very fine custom nozzle (maybe 1/4 inch copper line bent to suit?) and a leaf blower or compressed air to blow the water and crud out. You may also want to drill a few more drain holes and......its going to be messy wear goggles.
