96 D1 - 2 button remote fobs stopped working

Hi all,

My 96 D1 came with 2, 2 button remotes. One of them never did work. The other was fine, although I had to be very close to the vehicle to have it work. Over the past few weeks this remote gradually stopped locking the vehicle, although it would still unlock it. Now it has stopped working completely. Changing batteries made no difference.

Locking and unlocking with the key sets and releases the alarm without issue (drivers door only).

I'm not sure if the fobs have gone bad or if they just need to be resync'd/reprogrammed. Reading the manuals and other forums, it seems they cannot be reset manually and need to be reprogrammed with one of the Land Rover specific OBD2 code readers. Before I take it to a dealer (gasp), does anyone have one of these LR OBD2 readers I could use/rent/borrow? e.g. iLand, Nanocom, Hawkeye, etc.? I can meet anywhere in the lower mainland.

Thanks for any help or other suggestions.

I think Andrew Goh has one he has offered to lend out before.

Unfortunately, his Nanocom is configured only with the Disco 2 V8 programming module. :(

Marty,

This is an option which I have seen guys from the other forums use with success:

Good luck!

Ouch!! It’s a 23year old truck for Gods sake. At Cdn$185 & shipping from the UK, for a single fob, I think I’ll just use my key. Thanks for the suggestion though.
