Machine shop in the Fraser valley

Anyone know of a good one in the Valley. My Disco needs head gaskets, which means getting the heads checked for true.

It is pain a in the butt fire ring failure fine at idle and low to moderate RPM, leaks only under load. The Disco can idle to 45 minutes without an issue up to 2500 rpm for short periods.

Has taken a couple weeks of research to confirm it as the cause of my over pressure.

Might not be just the gasket. To check the head you just need a straight edge and feeler gauges.

I've in the past flattened heads this way:

If you do this yourself, get a good straight edge, good quality feeler gauge, and some dye penetrate. Best to pull the valves and check for cracking between the valves. If all checks out then check liner protrusion and check the the block with the straight edge as well.

@swamijake I have read all their stuff prior to purchase that could be the case. Generally I would expect coolant in the oil from a crack and significant overheat, but it has been indicated to me that is not always the case.

But this issue was pretty much overnight with zero overheat literally, the Disco cools perfectly, even after the coolant loss ( about 1/2 in, in the expansion tank due to over pressure) I never get beyond 201 degrees at idle after running driving for some time dropping to 194 very quick as the fan clutch kicks in at idle for over 15 minutes.

When I 1st noticed it I bled the system topped her and drove for 20+ minutes, at speeds ranging from 50 km to over 100, idled and drove up a good sized hill in 3rd gear. No heat issues, no pressure, no coolant loss at the end of the run or the in the AM.

Oil is clear and normal no "milkshake or oil filler cap discoloration", no excessive white smoke but that may be a false flag as the leak appears to be small enough to burn off during running if it is getting in.

I topped everything up and bled the system and let her idle for 30 minutes, to test, never passed 194 and no coolant loss or over pressure. No excessive pressure.

Literally it has taken me 10 days to get to this conclusion after reading everything I can about cracked blocks and head gasket leaks only underload.

For your amusement I found the exact symptoms on a diesel tractor forum, they used a K-seal stop leak product, but I prefer to do the job right.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, always pays to consider the worse case and more information is always good
