The Rover-Landers of BC

New member, there is no Range Rover forum for BC that I could find. I’m on range rovers.net but prefer to speak to local people. Apologies in advance if range rovers are not welcome here!

I work on my vehicle myself for the most part unless there are electrical things I would like done, thus why I’m posting here.

I like to go off roading / overlanding and don’t want to be stuck on a trail one day if my steering column lock fails (this has happened to 06-09 range rovers) and I want to disable this feature altogether. Right now I have no issues, simply wanting to do this as a preventative measure

There is an in depth YouTube video from rob the car guy on his 2006 full size. He essentially makes it so that the steering wheel can no longer lock and when the dome lights are on you can turn the key without the key needing a signal of approval from the steering column immobilizer in order to start the car.

If someone can copy what rob the car guy did to his 06 on mine I would be very interested in bringing my car to you to get this done to increase reliability and not worry about my vehicle not being able to start and / or my steering column locking up on me on a trail.

All Land Rover and Range Rovers enthusiasts are more than welcome here, although most of us do have the older Defenders, Discovery's, LR3's and Range Rover Classics.

What year is your Range Rover? It may be worth phoning and chatting with one of the Independent Land Rover shops like Rovalution Auto or Hesp Auto as they deal with a lot of the newer Land Rover issues. They may not want to disable the steering lock due to liability issues, but its certainly worth a call and a chat.

Maybe someone else on the forum has done this before, we will see if others reply on the topic,

Yes have reached out to Rovalution but they do not have experience doing this they said

Hesp is very picky, they don’t even let you bring your own parts to install so I didn’t bother asking them. Good shop though.

I’m with you that they probably wouldn’t want to perform this job due to liability issues

Hoping someone locally may have experience though or is able to follow the YouTube video enough to know how to do it. Happily pay in beer and cash :D

Welcome to another Range Rover owner. There's not too many of us here. I remember watching a video on disabling the lock, but it doesnt apply to my P38. Good luck with it!
