Just wondering what people's opinion are of the Series 1 86 inch and 88 inch.
Is one more desirable than the other?

They are both great machines and a lot of parts are interchangeable. The extra 2 inches were added to the front fenders . From a historical point of view the 86 might be more desirable due to it's age but that is just a matter of preference. The series one 86" and 88" are by far my favorite Landrovers. The 2 litre engine is more expensive to overhaul than the later 2.25 but I believe it's worth it to keep the 2 litre. I have never had any trouble getting parts so don't let that scare you off. Cheers Robin

I've never seen an 88 series one in the wild. I think there were quite a few 86's sold in BC, but not sure on the 88's. In terms of more desirable, they are both cool and I don't think one would be worth more than the other, at least not in this part of the world. Mechanically I'm pretty sure they are identical, maybe a longer driveshaft in the 88. So they both have all the hiccups of a series 1. Check the fuse to make sure it isn't a piece of copper pipe.

If you have a line on a good 86 or a good 88 go for it.

The fuse on my Series 1 88 was the old one wrapped in tin foil ☺️
