Series 2A Overdrive/Transmission Brake

Hi there,

New to the forum, but excited to be a part of it. I recently picked up an overdrive from Roamerdrive and installed it on a 2A (1967) I picked up recently (I’m planning on doing a project thread), and for some reason my parking brake either sits lower than expect, or my transmission sits higher than it should, although everything looks stock underneath. My question is has anybody else experienced this, and come up with a better solution?

I took the parking brake assembly out and heated it up and bent it, but couldn’t get enough travel out of the bend to not rub on the overdrive, so I drilled new holes on the side brackets to mount it higher, but the actuating rod isn’t long enough for the new position. Seems like a terrible design overall, has anybody converted to a cable parking brake or have a more optimal solution here?

A picture would help?

I’m not at the vehicle currently so I will get pictures up as soon as I can. Basically wondering if anybody had experienced a similar issue before, or if anybody has converted to a cable transmission brake?

Is it LHD or RHD?

There was two different types of hand brake, one has a straight lever and one has a "boomerang" lever. Maybe you have the wrong one?

Never seen or heard of a cable conversion before (but I'm sure its been done somewhere!) Maybe give Ray at Global Roamer a call 604 925 1260 as he's likely seen everything relating to overdrives and how they fit with the hand brake etc.

This happened to me as well. I was able to raise up the handbrake by using the top existing hole and just re drilling a second hole as you’ve mentioned. I did have to adjust the hand brake rods but I had enough length. You can adjust the linkage where it enters the handbrake to gain a little more length for the linkage that ties into the handbrake lever.

Thanks. I reached out to Ray at roamer who suggested to just keep bending it. I may go for some kind of hybrid between the extra holes and the bent rod. Will let you guys know how it goes this weekend
