Lower Brake Lights Not Working

Just bought a new to me 97 Discovery 1 (4.0 Liter) and noticed the rear brake lights don't work. The third brake light on the top end of the door works great but the 2 lower lights do not. I tested the bulbs and they are good. I'm assuming the brake switch is good as the third light is working and I can get out of park. Checked the fuses I could find and they are good to.
At a loss for what to check next.... All the other lights are working in the cluster (although I haven't checked the reverse lights yet).

I don't actually know where the brake lights are supposed to light up in the cluster but I assume they share the bottom portion with the rear fog lights.

If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears!

Mines a D2, but I’d start looking for plugs or grounds that are loose

Hi.

I agree with Harv, most likely a bad ground or corroded connection. Was there any corrosion on the bulb bases when you checked them.
While you are cleaning up the connections use a test lamp or multi-meter to confirm 12v at the bulb socket when the brake pedal is pushed and test the ground connection between the bulb holder and the chassis.

If you have a Trailer socket, check that too, sometimes if they have been installed after market, they chop into the existing wiring.

Let us know how you get on ...
