Wheel bearing

While my ‘97 D1 was up for an oil change, doing the 6-12 o’clock tire pull clearly answered the question as to why I get an on-off rumbling from the passenger front tire. Bad wheel bearing. That being said, my vehicle came with wheel offsets. Happily having sold them, the steering is better and not as heavy, and probably putting less force on the power steering. Not sure about this but I think the offsets could have put more pressure on the wheel bearings, due to their extra distance outboard. Anyway I have Timken bearings and grease, a large socket for that thrust nut, washers and seals. The weird part is that the bearings did not come with an outer race. Are they suppose to? Timken part # LM603049-20024.

Did you buy SKF BR37 or Timken set 37?

You are suppose to replace bearing and race at the same time.

Also, did you buy a new hub seal?

Yes, bearings are supposed to come with an outer race. They are useless without them.

LM603049 is for the inner race, and LM603011 is the outer race. The two races are sold separately, but you usually need to replace them both.

You are correct about the wheel spacers (offsets as you call them) causing havoc to wheel bearings, and steering components.
