***CANCELLED*** Spring 2006 RTV Trials -- ***CANCELLED***

#1 Post by DaveB » Mon Mar 27, 2006 10:29 am

As posted on the front page of the website:

Spring 2006 RTV Trials to be held on April 23, 2006. Register here for entry. Fee is $20 to enter and there will be prizes for best score. Please register as soon as possible as this registration will be opened to the public on April 7th. The Trials will be held in the same venue, south of Aldergrove with all new courses as there's been a lot of digging in the past few months.

Volunteers needed!!! To make this event a success we need YOU if you're not planning on driving the course. Volunteers will also be able to play on the course during the day Saturday, April 22nd as we set up for Sunday. We are hoping to have 50 entries, and at least 4 courses running simultaneously, so we will need at least 20 volunteers to bring it all together. Send an email to [email protected] to volunteer!

thanks, Dave

Thanks to all who've volunteered! We have a good core of supporters to help with the event.

NOW WE NEED A FEW OF YOU TO ENTER AND DRIVE THE TRIALS!!! Kris? Don? Andy? Stuart? Phil? Paul? Rick? ...and all the rest of you? Time to start signing up so we have a good Rover contingent to fight off the herd  of other trucks that'll be entering soon.

again thanks, Dave

Thats funny as it would make my wife happy if you bought some land rover stuff. I think we found how to explain how land rover can make our wifes happy or sad.

Certainly I have no problem posting it to BC4x4, however, the Roverlanders members need to have a chat about it first... If its all going to be non-rovers from the general public of bc4x4, MAYBE we should just turn it into a fun day for ourselves and the Herd, since a number of the volunteers are Herd members.

My opinion, if we have about half the participants being roverlander members, then I'm pretty easy with inviting the public. But so far I've only had one sign up, and while its a rover, that doesn't bode well for having half the participants being rovers.

Or, do we cancel all together and do something else for the day? It is $200 to rent the vene, plus porta-potti, plus coffee urns, plus paying up front for food, plus prizes. If we don't get about 20 entries at $20 each, we won't break even.

Thoughts guys?

Hi Dave,
Maybe we can just throw some questions out there right here on this string. Are you interested in a trials event? If so why haven't you signed up yet? If not, why, or what is it you don't like about this kind of event? What are your feelings about opening it up to non-members? Would you really rather just goof around in the mud :D

Okay !
I have a few questions?
Will a stock land rover make it through the trails?
What modiffication do i need to have in order to compete?
TIRES SUSPENSION ?

i guess the blunt question is will my landrover make it through the trails with out breaking somthing?

Cheers

The trials courses often have some deep ditches and high burms to cross, and we usually put on at least one course for the more serious contenders. However, most of the RTV Trials can be navigated by a stock truck. It is not a race, so careful approaches and gentle use of the left foot can get you through most of it in a stock truck.

Hey Andrew,

I wouldn’t count you or your Discovery out…in fact it is probably a great opportunity to discover more about your vehicles capabilities...with some well experienced Discovery drivers hanging about to give you hand…if necessary. :)
Maybe you would get the entry list rolling by signing up.

Maybe we need to entice participants with door prizes :?:  :?:

Maybe I should sign-up…although I really did want to work the course. :?: :!:

Hay Andrew and all others this event is for all vehicles from stock and mild to wild and to win wild may help but certainly is not a guarantee so if you have a stock vehicle in which some where last time the very least you could do is have a great time in your truck learning its and your abilities no pressure come give it a go and have fun as the courses range from mild to wild.
Hope to see you and others there giving it a go.
If you volunteer you may wish by the end of the day you competed to have fun.

Sign yourself up Paul! There are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

I just really don't want to go to all the effort of putting on the event as our club event if we have only 10% of the signed up trucks being Land Rovers. That's why you guys got a 2 week jump on all the other potential participants, but so far we only have one truck signed up and paid for. We need approx. 15 trucks to break even, and if its 1 Rover and 14 toyotas, jeeps and suzukis it will be really disappointing.

So, I'm putting on some deadlines. If we DON'T have at least 10 Rovers signed up by Friday night, April 14th, we're gonna refund the money to all those who signed up and turn it into a fun day for the volunteers and whoever else with our club or the HoT that wants to attend.

If we DO get 10 Rovers signed up by Friday night, April 14th, I'll then invite the masses from BC4x4 to come and join us and we'll have a well rounded mix of Rovers and other trucks.

If you're a volunteer that would rather drive the event, we do have plenty of volunteers at the moment, so feel free...

The ball's in your court, guys.

RTV Trials......

#18 Post by ANDYD » Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:15 pm

Hi Guys,
Maybe we are all fooling our selves......

If its not sparking the interest of the Rover club then why spend 2 days setting up, organizing & judging this event just to "maybe" break even?

Why not postpone for later in the year & plan a different trip that would spark more Rover interest?

I had a lot of fun participating in the last RTV trials & I will be in these ones if they go ahead.....but.....I could have just as much fun exploring the mountains somewhere which would involve a whole lot less of organizing & would hopefully attract a lot more Rovers?

Just my 10 cents worth........
cheers,
Andy :D

Thanks, Andrew. My point exactly. This is a great deal of work for the organizers and volunteers, and personally I'm not into putting on the event for the 4 wheeling public. I'll invite them to round out our numbers, but my opinion -- it should be at least 50% Land Rovers or why bother?

Andrew,

Glad to see you giving it a try. As I have said before most Rover products are very capable right off the showroom floor. If you spend toomuch time hanging out on sites like discoweb.org, etc. or heaven forbin pirate4x4.com you might get the impression that to go 4 wheeling you need to spend a pile on upgrades first. Nonsense! If one is worried about a little scratch then fair enough, stay at home but most Series trucks that do our runs are stock, (heck, 20 years ago what was a "mod'ed" truck?) and there is usually a stock coiler (even on factory tires no less) or two that comes out on whatever the run is and we always get the whole gang home with as little "evidence" as possible. That being said, most damage is done "in the hands of the operator". If you are willing to learn from others then you will fair much better than the "peddle to the metal" types.

I hope the event comes off and that we get more new people out for the fun, on this event and otehr club trips.

I'll second John's sentiments, participants shouldn't feel alot of pressure just because their truck is stock. Everyone there to watch knows and appreciates that a stock truck will have limitations but it is all the more encouraging to see these trucks having a go. There is no shame in getting pulled out of a stuck. We are not that kind of club, its just alot of fun watching all the different levels of truck running over the same terrain.
