Hi Herman. I wish you luck (I’m not trying to be funny). As you must be aware by this point, it’s almost impossible to remove a steering relay from an old frame. When I removed mine many years ago, Allen Simpson suggested dynamite (he was trying to be funny…I think).

I have a couple used ones here in Victoria. I’ll dig them out and check them over.

Hello, thanks for the replies. It’s unfortunate how difficult these relays are to remove from the chassis, if only they used some form of anti-seize before fitting these relays when new.

Thank you Matt for looking through your spare parts, let me know what you find. I just figured I would check to see what was available before buying new. Let me know the condition and work needed.

I haven’t looked to see if individual parts are available for repairing a relay. I damaged the large brass/copper washer at the bottom of the relay, it cracked on one of them .

On the second relay the bottom of the relay casting body cracked trying to remove it .

Hello Herman
I rebuilt my relay with parts from John Craddock's......new spring, seals, phenolic tapered bushes (2 sets), and not expensive.
Followed the Land Rover shop manual guide with no problems.....step by step.
Word of caution.......the internal spring when "LOADED" (in the housing) is like python ready to strike!
Your success will be determined by the load applied to move the relay when complete.....12lbs on a spring scale if memory serves.

Yes, please heed the spring warning. When I did mine 25ish years ago, I was oblivious to the spring and was lucky I didn’t kill myself.
