Would anyone have a rear main seal for a series 2 2.25L petrol that they are willing to part with.
This is the 2 piece seal (see photos) and not the later versioned 3 piece seal.
Land Rover Part No. 504844

Do you need the oil seal or the two pieces shown above that hold the oil seal? Usually you can re use those pieces and just fit a new, quality seal and cork âTâ pieces.

Hi Matt
On page 80 of the Series 2 & 2a Parts Catalogue there are two types of rear main oil seals.
The photos may not be too explanatory.
One 504844 (my block) is a two piece with the oil seal integral to each half.
The other 523240 & 529365 (later version) is a two piece seal that attaches to the block and that holds the oil seal that has been cut in order to fit it over the crank.....this is a three piece seal c/w a garter spring.
In the series 2 engine blocks in order to change a rear main oil seal you have to replace both halves which has the integral oil seal.
In the series 2a engine blocks and the new design to change a rear main oil seal you can simply replace the oil seal and garter spring and not the metal retainers.
If that makes sense.
So all that said I am in search of 504844.
Thanks,
Stuart

Update on the 2 piece rear main seal (504844) for a Series 2 2.25L Petrol.
PB Blanchard in UK has them in stock.
Rumour has it that this company may be winding down in the next few years.
Also, according to Richard at Turner Engineering in UK they use the 3 piece seal kit (542494) in replacement for the older style 2 piece.
He mentions "tricky" and "finicky" and not always successful.
In his words if you can locate the original (504844) use that one.
