West Valley Instruments in California can refurbish it for you.
They did a Speedometer for my 80" and the dual gauge for my 86".
Very satisfied with the results.

Thanks for that tip Greg, will check them out.
Real issue is the hollow tube for the water temp probe was cut...tried to repair it but no success.
Have a line on a replacement through the Series One Club in the UK, may pursue that option.

Nisonger Instruments in NewYork sells new dual gauges using the original Smiths tooling.
They used to sell the gauges that have the Land Rover logo.
The gauge i sent to West Valley Instruments had no tube at all! They did a good job on it.

Hi Stuart,
I also have one of those gauges with a snapped off hollow tube, so I will be interested to hear how the S1 club replacement tube repair goes.
With the risk of losing a bit of originality I decided to go instead with two separate "age correct" Jaeger gauges for the oil and temp. You can find these on ebay fairly easily. I expect I will repair the original gauge one day as a back up / keepsake!
Good luck
Andy

Hi Andy
The LRSOC (Land Rover Series One Club) British Jaeger gauge is a refurbished one identical to the original dual oil/temp gauge that is in this vehicle. It is 120 BP (c/w capillary tube and bulb) and with new flexible oil line and connectors it is about 165 BP before shipping........
In my attempt to repair this gauge I did not realize that the capillary tube/sensor bulb was filled with ether......!! Thanks to a vintage refrigeration technician.!!!
Before I continue down the LRSOC purchase I will try the repair again.
There are a number of articles and procedures listed on line that you can research and follow.
Couple of issues:
1. finding ether in today's world
2. soldering brass/copper containing ether
I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I have repaired the water temp line on these gauges in the past. As mentioned above, they are filled with Ether so you have to be careful and have plenty of ventilation! You need to find a cheap new mechanical temp gauge and use the line off this new gauge. You put the temp bulb end into a bowl with ice water and salt in it to super cool the bulb which will then collect most of the ether into it. Then you can cut the line and solder it onto your original gauge. The trick is finding a super small piece of copper to couple the two lines together and not lighting the ether.
Here’s a good website with an example:

Thanks for that link Matt
Another good option and procedure to do this repair.
I think the solution of joining old gauge with new sensor is the best option.

You can buy the gauge at rovers north.
Nisonger no longer does service but their employees have their own place now.
They just rebuilt all my 80 gauges

Hi Marc
1. make sure you re logged in.
2. take the photo and save it on your desktop.....it will be in jpeg format which is fine....do not make the jpeg file too large.
3. post a reply on a subject or start a new topic
4. scroll down to the lower section of the page and you will see a tab "attachments"
5. click on the tab and you will see a box "Add files".....click on the box.
6. that should send you to your desktop where you will click on the file/photo you want to add.
7. it will load to your posting......you can click the preview box if you wish.......then click submit.
