300Tdi operation

Any of you out there who are experienced driving and maintaining a 300Tdi? Finally on the road with the new engine and am not always sure what is normal. There are a few glitches during operations such as total loss of power at low RPMs both random, but not often, and after first startup and 100ft of travel. THis is the most serious issue to date.

All thoughts appreciated.

I'm running two vehicles fitted with 300Tdi engines.

One is brand new (just over 2,000 kms on it) the other is a little older (approx 30,000 kms). The older one is a little gutless at low revs when cold, but fine when warm. The newer one pulls like a train from cold.

My guess as to the difference is that the new one was fitted by a UK company that's fitted thousands of these units and the older one was fitted by people who, despite being highly skilled, had never done this particular engine before.

Did that help? Probably not, but if you want to wander up the island and take a peek at the two units for reference, you are most welcome.

David,

Suspected today that I've got air ingress in the fuel system. Put a clear hose on after the filter and eccchhh!!! Lots of air. Can't see any weeping or leaks anywhere so think it's the lift pump leaking into the crank case. Particularly as the oil level is down quite a bit from two days ago. Off to get replacement from my old 2.5NA. We'll see if that solves the problem.

Love to see your two. Particularly if Aart set them up.

It WAS air in getting in from the lift pump. Had to modify the 2.5NA one a bit as the pump handle is on the opporsite side of the housing, otherwise they appear identical. With the amount of air in the pipes leading to the distributer pump I would've thought the engine wouldn't have run at all! Huh!
