Hwy 99 the right way

On Monday I drove down to Vancouver from Pemberton. We were running late coming back and the Highway was scheduled to close from 8 pm till midnight. I did not want to have to wait 4 hrs to go home, so my wife and I bought some food from Wendy's (I gotta have my Frosty) in Squish with the intention of eating after we got past the construction zone.
I'm so glad we did; we stopped by the salt shed to eat and after two work crew trucks stopped to tell us the road was about to close we got to hear and see the smoke from an explosion. Then came the fun part, the road had been closed for about 20 minutes, the truck was fully loaded and we weren't in a hurry so I drove all the way to Whistler at 60 km/hr. It was only 8:30 so it was still light out and we only saw 5 other cars, all going the other way (I guess they didn't know about the closures).
It reminded me why I used to love this road and drive it for fun back in the 80's. No stress, no idiots in a hurry, just cruising along looking at the scenery. If you're coming up this way and aren't in a hurry I suggest timing it to enjoy the road like this, it's a rare thing.
