The Rover-Landers of BC

Hey all

Been looking at a 110 for sale (the one with the smoking 2.5). When I took it out for the test drive the steering had a real problem. I could not keep the truck in a straight line. Wandered left, try to correct and it wanders right. Try to correct and it wanders left. Try to correct and it... well you get the picture. There doesn't seem to be any slop in the steering (not like my 88) when I wiggle the steering wheel side to side.

Once we got back, I crawled under the front end for a look see. What I found was the track rod (?) (the one behind the front axle that connects the two wheels) had a nice bend in it. Pretty sure this would be the cause of the wandering but is there anything else I should be looking at here.

Yes the "tie rods" are made of butter and bend really easily. Very easy to straighten. Then adjust to slight toe out (~1/8"). You can do it with a tape measurer across the front and back of the tires.

What part of the country are you located? Who is selling the truck? They don't seem to know much about them.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it would just be the bent rod causing the wandering. The front tires are not worn so it hasn't been driven too much in this condition.

I'm in Ontario... don't hate me :cry: (spent my very early days in Calgary though). The 110's are in Quebec. And no, the sellers don't seem to know much about them. They are not Land Rover people. They are just in it to try and make a buck I fear. Their idea of detailing a vehicle before selling it basically amounts to a coat of green paint. Don't know exactly where they are getting the trucks for sale but he does have some beat up rigs he bought for parts that look like they came out of Suffield.
