With Regrets!

I had intended to spend some time last night typing up something about the Vancouver Island Land Rover Enthusiast weekend held at our place for those not able to attend. It is with regret however that I am going to put it off till another time.
It seems that about 1:30 Sunday afternoon, on the "Hillcrest Road" just a hundred meters or so before the road we turned up the mountain on Saturday, a very good friend of my son David (and in fact of the family), died in a single vehicle traffic accident. Dustin and some friends had gone swimming to "The Forestry Pools" (that we passed today, AKA Chemainus River Provincial Park). He is with the local volunteer fire department, they had a fire call and he left on his own in his Jeep CJ. It is thought that he was speeding, lost control and rolled over.
Most of tonight was spent with David going to visit close family friends and the accident site.
Dustin would have been 20 in August. He was finishing grade twelve and was just at his high school graduation a few weeks ago, dressed in his fire fighting gear. He was a volunteer fire fighter, worked for a forestry company as a fire fighter, was involved in many outdoor activities and had been Chief Petty Officer first class at Sea Cadets till he aged out (their highest rank).
He was at our house on Friday night and had "prepared" our mud run for us. (With the help of me winching him out of it a couple of times.) He was anxious to get his Jeep roll bar changed to a roll cage and had prices quoted on the conversion. He was also anxious to get smaller tires on it for better stability. His Jeep had 35 inch tires, I think he said he wanted to change to 30 or 31's. He was quite happy with the power of his stock 6 cylinder engine.
Till we meet again, please be safe.
