towing on 4 wheels
Hi All
Can a Range Rover Classic be towed on all four wheels with a tow bar about 100 miles without damaging the drivetrain? I've towed series trucks, Jeeps and Gipsies long distances without a problem but never an RRC... anyone have experience with this? What does the owner's manual say? :?:
Many thanks, Rob

towing
In my experience in the RV buisness. most automatics, towed require the engine in neutral and the key on to 1st position to unlock the steering lock and any transfer csase in neutral. might be worth while checking the web sites of tow bar companys, and ask them, like BLUE OX. and ROAD MASTER/. failing that i would run the vehicle in neutral with engine running for the 100 miles. because there is still another issue, of whether there is fluid being moved through the transmission. in your area call the service dept at triangle in sidney, and ask who in the area installs tow bars, there is usually a competent shop who has ah expert. all the best, RICK MELLENGER,ATLAS TRAILER COACH PRODUCTS.

Hi Rob, I’m posting the answer I received from my boss who run LRNA’s off road programs, these guys are all ex-US Camel Trophy team members and many of them where around when Classic’s where run in the Trophy.
Flat towing is not recommended for any LR, but I do know people who have towed with the same Transfer case/Transmission combination that your friend has with no problems. Just make sure he puts the transfer case in neutral (diff lock off/open) and the transmission in Park (not neutral).
How far is he going to be towing? If he is towing all over North America, then I would suggest he unbolt the driveshafts at the front and rear diffs and then tie them up out of the way. It’s a little more work, but much better for the driveline during longer towing scenarios.
