can this seal be changed with out taking the whole unit out of the truck?
if i remove the front drive shaft, and the cover on the end of the tranny , can i easily remove the yoke, to get the cover off, to pop out the seal? all the best, for any advice. before i give the truck to a shop to do it??

I did mine quite a few years ago so I don't remember exactly how to do it, but I did not need to remove the tranny. (1963 S2A).

On a Series truck it can be done, I've done it, BUT there is just about NO room to swing a wrench on one of the bolts. I managed with a shortened, open end wrench. You get a tiny bit of a swing, remove the wrench, turn it over and get a bit more swing, take it off, turn it over, get a bit more swing. Repeat time and again till it is finally out. Seal comes out easy and goes in easy. Best part is, there is no oil leak after you finish. (At least not from that seal.) Now you get to put the bolts back in again. One itty-bitty swing after another till it's tight.

Well worth the battle!

Our Derek, stayed over last night, and he and i , went over to AARTS. i got a seal, and Derek got advice, [like what did you expect from a visit there,] lol. so a few hours later, {that never happened before ] , i got a new seal. As i have a new over drive wending it,s way north from NEW ORLEANS, on its way to BLAINE ENTERPRISES across the border for me i will wait for it to be in my anxious hands befoe i install the seal, i think it will be worth choppping a wrench very short to do the upper bolt, i see what you mean. wow, close in there,, HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL. rick.mxxx
