On a similar note, I met someone a while back who tows their Series behind their pickup (no trailer). They put it in neutral and 4th if I remember correctly.

Is there a possibility of towing a Series behind a truck without major issues to the Series?

Transmission in gear — and I would suggest 1st or second so there's significant resistance to turning over, and transfer case in neutral. You can tow any distance like this.

If you leave the transmission of a series truck in neutral, I've been told the rotation from the output shaft will wear several parts inside and cause them to fail prematurely. Don't know if its the same for the Santana, but doing the above is the safest way.

I've towed series trucks all over the place on a tow bar, sometimes for hundreds of miles. For the extended trips I would disconnect the driveshafts from the diffs, leave the locking hubs engaged and off I'd go. Shorter trips I'd leave the Tranny in 4th and the transfer case in neutral (as per the owner's manual). Be sure the tow vehicle is heavier than the rover (dangerous jacknifing can occur if the towed rover is heavier than the vehicle used for towing). Rob

PS: Most of my towing was on the prairies... check BC law if you plan on towing here as I think it might be illegal to use a tow bar in BC.

According to the red instruction plaque many trucks have; it is top gear (fourth) with the transfer box (red knob) in Neutral.

Ah right, that elusive red instructions plaque... missing in many old Rovers. But Alan's correct, 4th gear.
