Hi All,

I found this on sale at North Shore off road...

10000lbs HD Offroad T-max Winch
Features :
# 10000 lbs. (4532kgs) Rate Single Line Pull.
# 6.6 hp /12v series wound Motor.
# 94' (28.5m) of 23/64"(9.2 mm) Galvanized Aircraft Cable with replaceable Clevis Hook
cart TMX12205 10000lbs HD Offroad $ 503.10 EACH

Anybody out there have any experiences with this winch or brand. I know that they are not speed demons, but the reviews I've read indicate that although slow they are a good solid winch.

Thoughts and comments appreciated.

I haven't heard much feedback on various forums I visit regarding T-Max.

As far as electric winches go, my recommendation would be the Warn 8274, which you should be able to find used for $3-400 if you watch the various classified sites. These are rated at 8000 pounds but actually pull much more than that and are still the preferred winch among many industrial users with full size 1 ton pickups.

Hi Dave,

Yes that would be my preferred choice...thanks for the ebay link as I will watch this one.

I also have a line on a warn up north at Loon Lake, so that one is still a possiblity as well.

Regarding the Tmax, this was recently reviewed by Land Rover Owner, and although slow it does state that the gearing is quite good, and the price seems quite good.

If anyone on the forum has a 8274 for sale PM me and we'll talk.

If you are planning not to use it much and have patient friends, they are OK. If you plan on using it, you will go insane waiting for them to spool in.

As Dave says, a used 8274, another $100 in parts and an afternoon rebuild and you will have a winch that is fast and always works. The only downside is that they take up a lot of room.
