The Rover-Landers of BC

I have recently purchased a Series IIa 109 with a Fairy Overdrive... however the 109 is a long way away from being road worthy... so I would like to take the overdrive out of the 109 and install it on my 88 until a later date... I have no idea what's involved in moving the overdrive from one truck to the other, can someone point me in the right direction... ie. Fairy Overdrive installation instructions would be nice! And of course any comments and suggestions are also welcome.

On page 8 of the manual from the link in the above post step 9 the instructions say use special spanner 600300 to remove the mainshaft nut... is there a alternate tool or technique to remove that nut or a place I can order it?

i was able to use a pair of channel locks to take it off, i had a couple on and off the 109. its a sweet overdrive.. good luck.

Looks like I have my weekend planned out! Thanks for the advice, I'll most likely have some more questions and maybe some picks for the forum.

That nut 'should' be very tight. In lieu of the proper tool you can use a punch and a hammer. Rick's suggestion of channel locks may work for removal but certainly not for the re-install.

So where does one get said spanner and how much?... Righ tool for the right job as my pappy always used to say...

i am lost, i thought in grade 5 science i learned, That for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction...am i wrong or does torque applied not equal torque required to unapply?? how is that if i can loosen a nut with applied force i can not apply equal force with the same tool. Definitively I really don't know. The nut is supposed to be torqued to 100ft/lb. If you can do that with the tools you have then it is installed correctly.

One more important point when you do the swap. The lockwasher referred to on page 8, item E, of the instructions is special and not the regular Rover item. The two perpendicular ears on it are shorter than the normal service item. You will need to take this item from your 109" and transfer it to the new install. If you need to replace the lockwasher due to damage you can always take a standard one and shorten the tabs accordingly.
