North West Challenge

Just want to thank all the Organizers & Sponsors of the this years challenge. Had a fabulous weekend, hopefully got some great shots! Safely homes through the torrential rains with a truck load of wet gear and still have a big grin from all the fun this weekend.

The competitors put on a great display of verve & determination. We saw a 4X2 landrover may not be totally impractical, the effectiveness of a Polish air compressor, and WD40 can be a girls best friend.

A few trucks had to be nursed home at the end of the weekend, fortunately the only towed casualty lived in Squamish and was sidelined by a dodgy fuel pump.

Cheers,

Roger

I agree Roger, totally awesome time, lots of fun. And a good balance of excitement and safety.

Aaron said on the way home he had so much fun he is going to buy a land rover.

Cheers

We rolled in around 10 PM.

Excellent event! Lots to talk about all the way home!

My cheek muscles are still sore from grinning so much!

The rest of my muscles are sore from being so out of shape!

Thanks Barry, Andrea, Don and the host of volunteers and sponsors that made this event a success.

We're looking forward to Washington next year.

Congratulations, to everyone on a great event. Barry and Andrea and Don deserve a big round of applause for stepping up and making this NWC one of the best so far. I was only there for Saturday's frolics and I've posted my photos in the NWC folder of the gallery. As soon as others send me some pictures of the other tasks I'll post them as well.

Hi everyone,

Even from the sidelines as a event marshal, I found that NWC 2010 was an excellent and challenging event.

I want to congratulate and recognize Barry and Andrea Newton as well as Don MacDonald for putting together an awesome competition right here in Metro Vancouver's back yard.

For me, highlights include:

- The wide variety of vehicles and levels of competitors
- Watching everyone take on the bonus challenge at the Tire Repair special task on Saturday, i.e. rolling the tire up and then down the hill
- The incredible level of sponsorship - not one participant (competitor or volunteer) appeared to leave without some type of reward for either testing their Land Rover's capabilities or helping out arrange for the grueling special tasks.
- Getting to know other members of RoverLanders and our friends from the Unexplored Southern Areas.
- Exploring new areas in and around Squamish

Any road, the list goes on.....

As a final nod to this year's organizers, I think it will be a Challenge for the next organizer's to achieve the standard that was achieved by NWC 2010.

Quick question for the organisers, will the final score breakdowns be posted on this site or the NWC micro-site?

Dying to know how I did...

Cheers

Neal Shipman here.

Had a great time at the challenge. You know its a great event when the volunteers outnumber the competitors and the number of prize giveaways almost become tiring. What I'm sure is because of being totally out of shape, I'm still walking with a limp due to a strained quad from consecutive physically demanding tasks, but it was still all worth it. Cant say enough about everyone that helped out and the good spirit that all the competitors had, even when it was raining. After sundays event I will certainly remember to turn my heater off when driving through 3+ feet of water. It got pretty intense when i was de-fogging with one hand while driving as fast as possible with the other.

Anyways, I'm going to do my best to get as many pimped out pavement pounders to show up to the next event as possible. Seams a lot of people talk about how awesome their rover is, but dont want to back it up. I think the Challenge might have developed a bad rap over the years for thrashing rigs, but we need to make it clear to people that its not all about that. the past couple years especially have proven that its consistency throughout tasks that heavily decides winners. It really is about having fun and even if people arent looking to compete they could at least have a fun weekend in the woods.

That was the most fun that I have had in vehicle wise in years and I was a volunteer!! Its good to be back in the club but I never expected the have this much fun. I have been riding a high all week ever since.

All summer all I wanted to do was get the Lightweight out and do some offroading and camping. Sadly the blown transmission stopped that from happening. It was a great way to finish the summer by doing just that albeit being a passenger in other peoples trucks

Highlight for me is having Sean show me what a 109 can really do and experiencing momentary zero Gs in Tweety with Don. My kidneys will never be the same..

Kudos to all of the organizers and the fellow volunteers who worked on this, particularly Barrie, Andrea & Don.

I have some great picture to have posted just let me know where to send them.

A huge thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and sponsers of this year's NWC, and to the club for hosting it. I think it was a great success. Congratulations to Mark and Kris, and Neal and Patrick on great performances. Despite breaking a halfshaft, Alex and I had a great time and look forward to the next Challenge.

Cheers guys!
