The Rover-Landers of BC

I'm getting closer to putting my Series 3 stage 1 on the road, after a very long import.

It's going to need new tires to pass, currently it has old worn 265/70/16 road tires. I'd like to put on mud/snow tires, but am getting lots of conflicting advise re tire size.

I've seen standard size written as 235/70/16. I've got stock steel rims with tubes. Can anyone recommend the best size for a Landy with non-assisted steering, and the virtues of BF Goodrish A/T's as against Uniroyal Laredo HD/T's. I was offered the latter today in a 235/85/16, is that too high (stock leaf spring suspension)

It'll be used off road, but not too seriously, and on snowy forestry roads.

The 235/85/16's will be about 1.25" narrower and 1" taller than your current tire (on paper anyway) so if you arent having any problems with the 265/70's rubbing you should be good. The narrower tire should steer a little easier too.

I agree with Scott. 7.50x16 would probably be 'correct' but they can be a little harder to find these days. 235/85x16 is a close metric equivalent.

My personal choice with the tyre options would be the BFG A/T, a very well respected tyre in the Land Rover / All Terrain world.

Haven't heard much before about the Uni-Royal, maybe someone else has tried them out???

also consider the BFG Commercial TA's in a 235/85/16. These tires are great all around. probably the best set of tires i ever had for all around performance on a truck. and they are great in the snow.

I put the BFG Commercial Traction TAs on my Range Rover in a slightly smaller size...

LT215/85R16

This is very close to the stock Range Rover and Discovery 1 sizes, and would make a great tire for any series truck as well. Awesome traction.

These tires have the distinction of being the evolution of the very famous "BFG Trac Edge" and my experience is that they live up to the name well.

235 /85 R6 is be best size to go with.

I run GoodYear G971 (used to be called G171)
on my Series 2A. Its a really tough commercial truck tire that looks proper on a Series truck. Good looking tire. Check out the Goodyear Commercial Truck Tire website.

Also, like the Toyo M-55 tire.

For winter I have Nokain Hakapelltia LT in 235/85 R16.

BFG AT's get my vote. I had them on my Series 109 and they were fantastic. Used them on the Canol Expedition last summer, deep mud, rocks yet nice and quite on the tarmac.

Plus they are a true winter rated tire, so they are also great in the snow. Very long lasting tire as well.
