The Rover-Landers of BC

Date Set For July 27 through 30th 2011

You might be interested to know that a steering committee has been formed to bring a National Rally style event to the Pacific Northwest. This is being spearheaded by Craig Miller and the Northwest Overland Society (in conjunction with Overland Journal magazine) and will be held mid-summer 2011.

Currently venues are being explored and the foundations laid for what will likely be one of the biggest events of the year. It looks like the most likely place for it to be held is the Cle Elum/Ellensburg area which has tons of trails.

The differences at this time from the National Rally appear to be more training/development sessions, more vendors demonstrating their products and multiple brands of vehicles, not only Land Rovers.

I'm hoping we can have a good contingent of Rover-Landers down to this event. Let me know if you have any ideas so I can include them in the committee discussions.

Looks like the NW Rally will be the biggest of the 4 being held this year.

Talking with Craig over the past couple of days, it looks like the "official" parts of the Rally will be the events that are taking place on the grounds of the 4W Ranch, and the trails will be run on a less formal basis. While you'll definitely want to take in many of the events and courses they're putting on, you'll also definitely want to make some time for trail runs.

I have a PDF which has a bunch of suggested routes, descriptions, and links to maps, all within an hour's driving distance from the base camp. PM me if you want a copy.

I can tell you, from several NW Challenges in the area, that these trails are some of the best you'll ever see. Think of it like a more organized version of Whipsaw with actual cooperation between the forest service and other governing bodies, and the users.

So far, we're planning on running the Divide Trail (Easy), Van Epps Mine (Easy), the Manastash Ridge & Shoestring (Most Difficult), and adding in the Tipover Trail (Even more difficult than Most Difficult). :P Shawn, you remember running the Tipover and Lost Lake? :lol:

Were hoping to go, Jackie has to sort time off.... worst time of year for her as the ski hill will be at 110% construction speed getting ready for the coming season & she's in the middle of it all :roll:

Dave, mail those maps to me.... when were you planning on heading down ?

We'll be heading down a few days early coming off of other vacation camping and helping with setup.

Doubt we can do that.... Jackie's new job only came with 5 days holiday in the first yr.... totally crap but the pay & other fringe benefits are good :D

So, can't complain too much...... :roll: just puts the dampers on any trips this year and esp since we've completed most of our house build now :cry:
