D2 heated windshield question

I have a 2001 D2 - it is an SD model but I think it has had a "heated" windshield installed in it as a replacement sometime in the past (has the fine filament wires in it). What do I need to do to power-up the heated shield? The SD doesn't have any controls for the heated windshield that I can find. Any advice would be appreciated.

Heated windsheild

Hi Rob,

At the lower corner of the windsheild (I can't remember left or right side) there will be a couple of wires attached to the glass (or a couple of connectors) probably just out of sight under the interior plastic trim around the glass.
If you dont have any previous wiring or a switch it can be easily added. You will need a fused 20 amp power source running to a relay, then a switch (with a light) wired to operate the relay (fairly simple circuit if you have some electrical knowledge)
Then the only thing missing would be the timer. Most heated windsheilds have a timer in the circuit to shut it off after 5 mins or so. You would have to pick up one of these, maybe from a breaking RRC or Disco or just remember to manually shut it off after a while.

Thanks!

Thank you for the advice, Andy, I'll give it a try and see how it works for me.

On the D2, the circuitry should be in place, but you'll need a switch from the wreckers, then put it on a rover scan unit to enable the heated windshield option as its tied to the master computer.
