Warn XD 9000i CE - Solenoid Problems

As an FYI for those of you unfortunate enough to get stuck behind me on the Snow Flake Chase last Sunday when my winch failed...

Warn tech support say it's a busted solenoid. There are four on this model, two for spooling in, two for spooling out. Whilst we could clearly hear one clicking on the trail, both need to be working for the motor to be energised.

$20 replacement (part # 72631) has been ordered from Lordco, should be here in the AM. Fingers crossed on this being the solution as the shipping costs to send the whole winch in for a warranty fix would make buying a new one a distinctly attractive option

Cheers, David

Ok, solenoid replaced and winch working again.

As you can see, it was a mechanical failure rather than electrical in that the connection post had snapped off. Judging by the damage to the bakelite surround it was over tightened in the factory.

Only problem I have now is that one of the bolts holding the winch on to the bumper sheered when I removed it to get the clutch assembly off so I could slide the solenoide out. Hey ho. Easy job for the morning to replace that.

BTW: Is staying in on a friday night to give your synthetic winch cable a bath the absolute definition of Land Rover pathetic-ness, or what? :)

Cheers,

David

Open a bottle of Grape Nectar.

Place synthetic winch cable in bath tube & automotive detergent & water & stamp the dirt away..

Abrasive mud/sand is not very kind to synthetic winch cable.
