Not so technical...

I'm having an ongoing problem with my hood latch. I've tried lubricating the crap out of it and tried adjusting the little rubber "bumpers or stops" on the far left and right corners but to no avail. It keeps sticking and I need someone to pull the release while I gently push down on the hood in order to open it.

The cable seems to be conected fine.

Thanks for any tips.

Sometimes they get dirt in them preventing full travel and you need to take them out and clean them. That or there is an adjustment problem somewhere.

1st what vehicle are you talking about?

It sounds like the cable is not pulling far enough the undo the latch.

By pushing down you are releasing the tension on the latch allowing the lock to release.

Is the hood supported by the spring before closing?

I had similar problem with a Camry. Pull the release lever then hit the hood at the window drivers side & hood would pop up. Worked fine till a neighbour tried to jump start it one morning & pulled so hard he broke the cable.

Sorry, I have a 99' Disco Series 2. The hood should be supported by the spring but even letting it go gently, just above the spring, it closes shut.

The release was working fine until the cold weather arrived. Coincidence?

I've tried cleaning the spring and as much of the "catch" as possible and I'm still having this ongoing issue. I have also lubricated the hell out of the catch but to no avail. I'm not sure if this made any difference but I also turned down or tightened the rubber bumpers on each side of the bonnet so that there might be less tension on the catch...this didn't help. Conversely, I also tried screwing the bumpers out bit to create more tension on the catch with zero results.

I'm not sure what you're (red 90) referring to when you say take it out? Can the whole catch mechanism be removed easily?

Thanks again for any suggestions.

On Disco 1s it comes out quite easily. I'm not familiar with Disco 2.

Looks like it should come apart, http://lrcat.com/33/4/45946

You want to get at http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/li ... -BONN.html and see if it can be made to work correctly.
