Hi,

Does anybody know if ALL 2.25 starters need to be grounded with a strap to the frame? the green bible says grounded "if applicable" or something to that effect. My series II has no ground strap, but has power through the solenoid to the starter and no movement.

I suppose the engine is no ground due to rubber mounts?

I'm hoping for the easy fix!

If your LR is a diesel tehn the battery is probably under the seat. If it is petrol the battery is probably in the front right corner of the engine bay. There will be a ground from the battery to the chassis. THERE ALSO has to be a ground (big one that looks like a battery cable or large woven cable) from the battery OR chassis to the engine. On petrol modles this ground to the engine is usually from right beside the chassis ground to the side of the engine block right beside the oil fill tube/ distributer. On the diesel the engine ground strap is often from the starter to the chassis (which is close to the battery).

So- No, you don't need a ground from the "starter" to the chassis/ battery. BUT you DO need a ground from the chassis/battery to the engine at some point or another. As long as there is a large ground strap to the engine/ gearbox assembly, your starter is grounded by being bolted to it.
