D90 no drive from T box

Military D90 with 2.5 na and standard boxes. Lost high range while driving home last night. No noises, just no engagement. While still rolling ans coasting to a stop, but still moving, it was all of a sudden and seemingly with no input from me, she was in low range. No grinding of gears and no clunk. Shift lever was still in H.
What to do? Well? first thing is to drive the last five miles home and worry about it in the morning. This morning, without moving any levers since last night, there is no engagement. Sigh!
Wiggled the still intact linkage and I now have drive so can move her in the driveway.
Anybody have any insight into this?

Shifter fork isn't connected to the actuator shaft right inside the T case. T case is coming out this morning. Hope it is just a grub screw backed out and not something broken.
A good sign is no shavings or loose parts in the bottom of the T case.

Yup! The set screw was backed out of the little hole in the shaft. Funny how it is the last thing left in the T case when you take it apart and the first thing to go back in when putting it back together. The entire case has to come out of the vehicle and be entirely dissected to the last part in order to reach the darned little screw. Loctite 271 coating it now. I sure hope nobody ever has to take it apart again.

Step 1) Remove all viewing covers in situ and determine likely cause.
Step 2) Remove entire T case.
Step 3) Disassemble entire T case except drive gear.
Step 4) Tighten offending set screw
Step 5) Reassemble entire T case minus one bolt (Darn, where could it have gotten to?)
Step 6) Wait till some nice day till I can lay on my back on the muddy drive to re-install T case.
I'm glad it wasn't anything major too. Just good luck I guess. It was really neat to be able to fold the canvas top forward onto the hood (bonnet), lay a beam across the roll bar and windshield frame and use a come-a-long to lift the T case.
