I'll go if I have my brakes fixed by then. But it doesn't look promising, it's hard to source that part and not pay an arm and a leg. Bloody RRC using a weird ABS pump and accumulator, grr. :(

Definitely coming up for the day. Haven't decided what rover to show up with yet.......

I'll be attending. Last year was a lot of fun.

Looks like fun... my L322's low range is currently inactive (broken switch) and doubt I'll have it working in time... will this be an issue for the off road excursion?

Cheers

Dave

No low range in a RR with an automatic transmission? Shouldn't be a problem. It would be better if it had it but many people have an off-road driving style that never uses low range. Some downhill sections would be nicer in low but light brake application are what most vehicles use anyway.

Sounds good Greg - I have HDC for the downhill bits :P

0900 Saturday June 8th is the driver's meeting. Everyone should be fuelled and ready to go by that time with breakfast packed away. Hoping to pull out of the farm at 0930 in convoy. We stop for lunch, possibly at a mountain top cabin at 3300 ft. or lakeside at 2200 ft. Hope to be back at the farm before 1800 (6 PM). Bring your own lunch of course and if you have to heat something, bring your own heating device. Bring a radio, VHF 2m; CB; GMRS; FRS or ?

Victor and I did a trial run on Monday. About 110 km with 85 on gravel, dirt and rock. I didn't feel a need to air down my tires and most vehicles should be able to make the run as long as they don't mind bush scratches. Short overhang and high rear bumper will help in the above ground culverts, some of which are pretty tight. Over the years we have been to all of the technical areas before but not in the same year/drive.

See you on Saturday the 8th of June.

For instructions on how to get there, www.vanislelandrovernetwork.com and go to the "Rally details" menu item.

Looks like this will be my first "real" off road in my series since I finished rebuilding it. I'm confident my trucks mechanically capable, but the tires are Michelin LTX a/s , tough but not very aggressive hope they're good enough, still saving for new defender rims and tires. Sounds like its going to be a great day, I'll start tightening bolt's now.....

I was asked by the service manager at the Victoria land rover dealer if he can join us this coming weekend for the off road drive.......in his jeep! I've already given him a hard time abut that. What's our etiqutte on non land rovers for the off road drive?

There is at least one more Jeep coming. I'm open to it.

I think, after Dave's win with his 'slightly modified' Land Rover Bedford truck, that the boat's already sailed on this one. The more the merrier. :D
A nice Land Cruiser and her owner got Ming (my Disco) out of the Fraser River. You can't keep a prejudice when someone does you a favour.

Sinking, if I had to guess.

I might be able to make the event, but no guarantee. We're moving from Duncan to Shawnigan on the 10th so last minute packing shenanigans might take precedence lol. However.... it would be a great chance for me to really see what my LR4 can do. Got a white one for the plain reason that it'll hide scratches :bounce:

Might even come down just for a hello if I can't make the offroad drive, I live right around the corner.

LR4 will go everywhere we are going and as long as you keep it in the track. There isn't too much bush to scratch it excessively.

ROTFL

That was our Richmond off road trip. I on the site, by the beach, and had a bit of bother with some innocent looking, but very gooey, mud. A kind gentleman with a RHD Cruiser winched me out.

Actually, I was one of the few NOT playing u-boat captain that day.

I was a little worried about the warnings regarding "scratches"... But now you have me re-thinking things...

I am supposed to be attending a 4 year old's birthday party at the same time - so I'm likely still a "no go"!

Ok gents, who is coming to the island for a weekend full of fun, camping, story telling and exploring new trails? I attended last year and had a great time! The weather looks great for this adventure. I've convinced Karen to come up from Seattle with her truck (the old green Disco), so post up.

Well! About 18 months ago I stopped driving my Series 2A 109 SW which you might call light blue. Then Yes! Or it might be Victor with his same colour light blue Series 2. Now I drive the military olive drab Land Rover 90.

Cool! Think I was parked a few spots down from you at Canadian Tire last week... you or Victor anyways. Had a whole whack of branches or something tied on the roof. I dunno lol. Pretty sure I've seen your MOD one a few times here and there too. I'm envious! Almost pulled the trigger on a 110 I was going to import from the UK but my wife wanted more creature comfort so we got the LR4 instead.

I'm around the corner (sort of) on Buckingham Rd. Here till Monday, then the move to Shawnigan. Was hoping to swing by the farm before you all roll out and say hello but no can do. Too much pre-moving crap going on. Lame lol.

Yes! Camped in the field. Trouble is, it's already after midnight and we're all going to bed. Had a nice evening of dinner and visiting followed by a campfire and marshmallows. A few of us going on another drive tomorrow. Today's drive worked out very well despite the dust. Ten vehicles, driver's meeting at 0900, on the road before 1000 and home at 1730.

All done. Finished for another year.

About 100 kilometres Saturday. Started at 1000 and home again at 1730 with an hour+ lunch break. Seemed to be twisty and technical enough for everybody but a bit dusty on 36 kilometres of recently graded logging road. The slow trails were well worth the trip.

Sunday? The guys from the mainland were interested in a bit more off-roading before catching the ferry. Another 110 kilometres finished off the weekend. This time the obstacle was cutting out all the fallen trees, about a dozen of them. Thank heaven for a chainsaw! Silver Lake was the destination, finishing in Ladysmith. Bit of a rough road just before the cabin.

Thanks for coming out guys and gals, young and old.

Yes, a very neat weekend, thanks again to Greg, Victor and the rest of the Gang for opening the field up for camping, scouting and leading the runs and being excellent hosts. The Mainland group made the return ferry in good time and it was a nice change to be "driven" home for a change instead of a long drive.
I have loads of photos to post up in the next couple of days, if anyone else has some they would like to share, send them to Bill or myself and we will take care of getting them posted in the gallery,
Cheers,
Andy

It must have been a pretty tough trek judging from that last photo. That Landy looks like it could use some TLC!

I'm sorry I missed it!

Sorry I wasn't able to come by for a hello at the camp site, too busy with last minute prep for our move. Where abouts did you all go? Prevost, Sicker, somewhere else?

I'm in town a few more weeks before I head back to work. If anyone is looking for a little day trip in the sticks and has an area in mind let me know. I've been out of the offroad loop long enough that all my previous fun spots have either been gated or gutted for logging. Bummer! I need someone with current knowledge of the valley to show me the ropes again lol.

Or if anyone just wants to grab a coffee, let me know. I'm in Shawnigan now just around the corner from Mason's :bounce:

Wow just checked out Andy's pictures. Sundays run looked great, wish I stayed for that one.
Greg, I hope you cut all those logs off the trail but left 2 feet sticking onto the trail like every other log we came across on Saturday :D

I had a great time and the old truck kept up pretty well with all the new machines, thanks for organizing this for another year Greg.
