How big are your nuts...

...behind the starter dog for a Series 2A?

Need to get the large nut off of the crank shaft in order to get the timing cover off... Thought it was a 1 1/2 inch but a 38mm socket is not even close to fitting.

Cheers

Dave

An 1 and 11/16 size socket should fit . Personally I found a good quality steel chisel, a small sledge and a few well placed hits will break the nut loose and allow it to be spun-off without too much effort. Usual backyard mechanic caveats apply.

If your starter motor works and the engines in the frame you can put a large crescent wrench on the nut with the handle held vertical by a jack stand then blip the stater to crack the nut free. Not the safest way but it works!
Good luck and wear a helmet.
