looking for input from Disco II owners on what they "actually" get for gas mileage from there 4.0L, Disco II's

I sold my '92 RRC & '95 Disco 1, both only got around 10 mpg.

Now ran out of people that would lend me their vehicle to use, so I had to buy something this last week end.

so,,,,

I bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L & am getting 22 mpg.
It has all the options & even a similar T/C as the Disco, but a little better.

2wd
AWD
4 High
N
4 Low

Still want to have a Disco, but the Jeep gets double the gas mileage of my Disco 1, so still on the fence.

A Jeep? You're going to the dark side.

I think a Honda Civic does even better than 22mpg.

This display is after my first fill after buying the car then going up Mount Baker. Pictures taken on the way down. I saw 1050, but the display changed to 1040 while taking pic.

If anyone is doing a refit on their Land Rover look into a VW Diesel as an option.

I have an 01 D2 with the 4.0. I consistently get 15 to 18 mpg running mid-grade fuel... my old RRCs usually ran 12 to 15 as an average. I'm not putting a lot of miles on the D2 so I tolerate the poor ecomony for the versatility and awesome ride.

Cheers, Rob

I've been tracking mileage in my '99 D2 since I bought it in early May. So far, I've driven 13,338kms and have consumed 2,123 litres of fuel. I'm running 92 octane, however since I've removed a lot of carbon from the engine when I changed my head gaskets, I'm thinking I may try 89 octane. The first few times I tried low grade fuel, I experienced severe detonation. That average puts me at 16l/100kms.

My best individual tank mileage was highway driving from Castlegar to Vancouver, during which I got 12.7l/100kms
My worst individual tank mileage 21.3l/100 which was completely in-town stop&go traffic in Vancouver...including trying to get from the North Shore to the valley at 4pm on a Friday of a long weekend.

I looked back and over the course of 20,000 kms with my '99 Jeep TJ (4.0, 5 speed, 4.56, 33x12.50s) I averaged 17.1l/100kms.

So, in short -- my D2 gets 15mpg. My Jeep TJ got 14. There are many reasons to buy a D2, but saving dinosaurs isn't one of them.

I'm averaging 13-16mpg (US) in my 4.0 D2. My highway driving consists mostly of driving over the Malahat pass between Victoria and Duncan which is a 300-something meter climb both ways, as Duncan is as low as Victoria.

Chevron 94 has transformed how the 4.0 runs, and is only 3 cents/liter more than premium. I think I'm getting slightly better mileage, also. I'm done with trying lower-octane fuels.

Since I've been commuting in the D2 the past few months I'm running 38psi in the front tires and 45 rear, which I'll lower to 36/42 when the weather gets colder/rainier. I have 245/75x16 Nokian studded winter snows which don't help fuel economy any, but they don't lower it too much. The slightly taller tire cancels out speedo error, too. My next summer tires will be this size instead of the stock 255/65x16.
