Another Roof Rack Question

I didn't want to hijack Troy's other thread about roof rack dimensions, so here's my related but different questions. I've got a 1966 Series 2A 88", so:

a. does anyone know if commercial roof racks designed to newer Defender models will fit the old Series trucks?; and
b. is anyone aware of a current line of roofracks that has "feet" or "towers" tall enough to accomodate the space between rain gutter and roof-top?

The custom-made jobbies are just too expensive for me.

Much obliged (again),

Chris

Hi Chris,
Defender racks should basically interchange with Series 88 racks. Dimensions do not vary much except in the area at the top of the windscreen. The Defender windscreen cuts into the roof line whereas the series doesn't. Not that this matters in most cases but I have seen some racks that incorporate sun visors and wind deflectors that may not play nicely with one or the other truck. A safari roof on an 88 could potentially interfere with a very low design Defender rack but I doubt it. Most racks have more than enough clearance.
