To fellow Rover Landers on the Island,
My wife, daughter and I are travelling the island and currently in Victoria and looking for the best place to stay and possibly a campground with showers.
Any suggestions please text me directly at 604-786-0887 and much thanks.

There's a ton of sites up in the North end of the island - it's relatively quiet up there too and you can often be the only campers at any number of great rec sites... If you're looking for showers though best stick to the bigger provincial sites and RV sites.

My fave rec sites are:

1. Alice Lake - very quiet, nice big lake. A bit windy though... South of Port Alice, about 3 hours North of Nanaimo and a good drive on logging roads
2. Anutz lake - Just off the Zebellos highway on Zeb Main logging road... Spectacular lake and mountain vista. Easy to get to with many sites all along the water (try the small sites further round the lake as opposed to the organized rec site at the head of the lake).
3. Zebellos - there's a couple of secluded rec sites on the other side of town that are right on secluded ocean inlets. Warm showers located a 5 minute drive in the centre of town next to the boat launch.
4. Stella and Pye Lakes just North of Campbell River - no facilities here either and the rec sites can get a bit busy as it's so close to Campbell. I have a feeling that the locals set up their 5th wheels for most of the summer here which is a piss off.

$20 for a Vancouver Island backroad map is strongly recommended - there are literally hundreds of rec/camp sites North of Campbell River that may be a little bit off the beaten track but are well worth the effort.

Cheers

Dave

Hey Dave
Thanks for your reply and suggestions, I have the BR book but wanted to draw on local or island knowledge first as sometimes the best guides are the locals. I will look on the map for the places mentioned and keep you posted. We head to Strathcona today for 3 days then right up to the north end.

Thanks
Christopher
