Northwest Challenge Event - Sea to Sky – Sep 30th, Oct 1st, Oct 2nd 2016

It’s time to start ramping up towards this legendary event, this year being held in a private mountain area just north of the Squamish BC, just a couple of hours north of Vancouver. There will be two or three exciting off-road stages that will be tight, technical and challenging. These courses will be exciting to drive and entertaining to watch. This year we are inviting 3 levels of participants to get involved, the Driver/Co-driver, the Volunteers and the Spectators. So come on out and support this great annual club event. More information & event history can be found at www.nwchallenge.com
Drivers & Co drivers will be required to arrive at the event location on Friday evening Sept 30th & the event will be complete on Sunday late morning. Camping is available for all registered entrants and event volunteers. Port-a-potties & a shelter will be available onsite.
Registration is open to a maximum of 20 vehicles, 2 adult participants per vehicle. All registrants will be required to sign a waiver in order to participate. Spectators will be invited to the main event on Saturday.
The registration fee is $60 for 2 adults and a vehicle ($30 each). This fee helps offset the cost of holding the event. Early registration is recommended and includes a discount, $50 for 2 adults and a vehicle ($25 each) for all entrants that have registered before Sept 5th. Registration & Payment can be made by clicking on the www.nwchallenge.com link and completing the online form. Following the PayPal directions for online payment. If you don't have Paypal, still complete the online form and payment can be made with cash or cheque (payable to Rover-Landers of BC).
Included in the registration fee, each entrant will receive a Drivers package, unique NWC t-shirt, Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning pancake breakfast. Also many great prizes for the winners and participants.
Vehicle requirements- All vehicles MUST;
- Meet the safety requirements.
- Be a Land Rover that is licensed, insured and in good mechanical condition.
- If soft top or open top it must have a roll bar (internal or external).
- Have strong tow points front and rear.
- Recommended (but not mandatory) is a Vehicle winch.
Note – for safety reasons & to avoid vehicle damage, this year these off-road stages will not be time trials, but more emphasis will be applied to taking the course slow and steady, applying more skill and judgment to navigate the obstacles.
Come on out, get involved, challenge yourself and your Land Rover to a weekend of thrills and good mountain air!

Andy,

NWC.COM is registered to a computer networking company...... !!

Also, I guess my old 80" without a rollbar is out of luck, eh?

Three Weeks To Go .....

We now have enough Volunteers for this event, Thank you.

We currently have 5 driver teams entered from Washington & Oregon but only 2 driver teams entered from BC.... come on BC, you can do better than that. Sign up for a Challenge and an Adventure. This legendary Land Rover event is right on your doorstep and wont be back in BC for another 3 years!

Cheers,
Andy

Rover-Lander members what is going on? 9 entrants and only 2 from BC! This event is on our turf, where is the BC representation? We as a club have more than enough capable drivers and trucks to enter this event. Unfortunately I'm not allowed too as I'm part of the folks setting courses and such. If I was, I'm sure my co-driver and I would represent us well!
Get off your butts and post up! You don't want to miss this awesome event, the chance to show off your driving prowess!

I've set that weekend aside for NWChallenge. If you already have enough volunteers, I guess I'll have to compete.

What time do we have to be there Friday night? One volunteer navigator has to work until 5 so it will be amazing if we could be there before 9 pm.

Done! Paid.

A change in co-pilot will see my son, David, accompanying me, maybe that should be "chaperoning" me? Look out everyone, he was winning co-pilot on this event a few years ago, about 16 years ago.

If I can keep the old girl from breaking down this year, we might have a chance. (The "old girl" referring to our Land Rover, NOT my Erica.)

Hi
I'm new to the Land Rover world. Is there a map to the Squamish Challenge location or is the Sea to Sky well marked.
thanks
John S.

The Sea to Sky is a touristy name for the Highway 99 which runs from the Canada/US border northward. The NWC is being held just off the 99 between Squamish and Whistler.

I plan on attending and would like to get directions to the site or GPS info, so that I can find a nearby place to sleep on Saturday night.

Hello,

For Spectators heading up on Saturday, the directions are, head north through the town of Squamish on highway 99, once you past the main strip of shops (Canadian tire etc) keep heading north for about another 15kms until you cross over a metal orange bridge on the main highway (you cant miss it!). keep going for another few km's and there will be a turning on the right. We will have Rover-Landers signs up, turn in there and follow the signs.
There is a small field for camping for those from the Island who would like to stay on Saturday night.

The driving action starts at 8.30am on Saturday morning so you need to be there early to catch it all, its recommended that you wear rubber boots if you want to follow the action across the water crossings etc..

Cheers, Andy

David and I made it safely home in time for dinner. We both had a great time in the Challenge. Thank you everybody for putting on a great event. Thank you too for making us dinner after Saturday's competition and breakfast today.

Did everyone else get home okay? I guess Jason won't be home for another day or two.

Who left the trail of oil down the road pulling out of the campsite?

Hey Rover-Lander friends, I finally was able to resolve my login issues (thanks to the admin for help on that front). Had a marvelous time at the event, it was great to meet so many people and enjoy the hospitality of our northern neighbors. Now that I've attended/participated in all 3 locations of the NW Challenge I'm looking forward to seeing what is on offer in Washington next year. Rover-Landers have set a high bar.

In case you haven't already seen it, I've posted a video on YouTube with some highlights of the action from the weekend.

Also, the debut issue of the new North American Land Rover Magazine, Alloy & Grit, will feature an article on the NW Challenge. You can subscribe or place an order for a single issue here at their website.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
