Smooth running again.

Over the years I've changed my carburator several times. The best I ever had was a twin SU setup but that got sold on my old 88 back in about 1978. Best I've had since was the original Zenith but it eventually suffered a worn throttle shaft and I tried to fix it, not very successfully. Worst I've had was the single barrel Weber; thought it was great the first few summery months I ran it. My Rochester B was okay, lots of power but stumbled a lot coming off idle, especially on an incline. I finally am back to an SU. A single on the aftermarket intake manifold made for it. It ran smooth as could be except sometimes. H'm! I decided the trouble had to be electrical and when my trusty 2.25 started crossfiring and backfiring and blew out the muffler a couple weeks ago, I was sure of it. I swapped in an old but trusty looking distributor with an old set of points and my same cap, rotor, wires and plugs. After warm-up, surprise surprise, she runs as nice as you could ask for.
Now I have to get my colds start cable to be an inch longer and it might run okay even when cold.
She runs so fine now that I'm starting to feel spoiled.
