Just acquired a Series 2A and the wiring is a bit old and needs replacing.Any suggestions or advice before I start.Looking for a wire harness if there is one around in the Fraser Valley ,Vancouver area.

They're a bit odd to start with. What makes you think a new or different one would be any different?

What's wrong with the current version?

Okay, I understand. Bare wires in the dash, loose wires, wires bundled with tape all falling off. Not original at all from the sound of it.

Often somebody here has a used one they might sell. You can also buy brand new ones from Autosparks, or others. In the U S Painless Wiring sells generic harnesses. You can always build your own but might wind up with what you gave now.

Just recently wired up my Dads Hot Rod with a universal painless setup, gotta say it was pretty painless!

I helped with a couple of home vehicle wiring jobs. Trouble is, the normal handyman doesn't have the availability of the collection of coloured wires needed to make a harness that somebody else can follow later. One was a full re-wire done with white wire and white only. Nothing had been terminated yet nor had it been labeled. Despite having labeled both ends of each wire by the time I'd finished, I sure wouldn't want to try to do anything with it a few years later after it has become dirty and greasy, can't imagine trying to trace a single wire in that bunch of white to find where it goes.

Another was mostly original but had scads of extra wires added and loosely strung in the general direction it was supposed to go., Again with no colour coordination.

There is an industry standard of wire colours for each item on a car. Trouble is, it is a different standard from one country to another. US is different from the UK. With that said, I just spent the weekend working on a Land Rover that had what appears to be an original Land Rover harness but almost everything was green. Green? With lots of added red. Got everything working but it certainly took some time.

A difference between an American vehicle and British is the British had a separate earthing wire for everything (everything). If that isn't making good contact, you're having trouble.

Yes in this case the wiring was mostly red with some white and a lot of old tape littering the bottom of the dash area.On the bright side the little beast came with lots of new old stock.new fenders,doors etc. :88greenswbtopless:

Autosparks in the UK make specific S2 looms... https://www.autosparks.co.uk/, would save having to make a universal fit the Lucas switchgear etc.

I can't speak to the quality of the AutoSparks product but as someone who built his own harness, and I was happy with the results, if I was rewiring a stock vehicle I'd for sure look for a pre-built harness. If you intend to sell the vehicle at some time in the future you'll probably find that a stock looking product will also increase the value of the vehicle.

Mmmmm Painless or Autosparks are the choices on the table right now.There are pros and cons either way so a coin toss could be in order.

All depends if you want plug & play with the Autosparks harness or making the Painless one work.

I did a complete rewire on a Series 1 with an Autosparks harness...well made, period correct and easy to install.

I have a new wiring harness for my 1967 series 2a and I admit I'm not very good at electrics. What I would like is for someone to help me install the harness. I'm more than happy to pay for this support.
